i guess that's sort of like asking why a D&D character wouldn't immediately go out and buy magic items if he had the gold.

Well, Modern isn't DnD and there's no Wealth/level-equivalent chart.

there are some drawbacks to cybernetics. you suffer an additional 50% damage from electricity damage. external cybernetics are subject to attacks as if they were worn objects. whenever you fail a massive damage check, there's a 70% chance your cybernetics may be damaged, destroyed, or worse.

This is what I was looking for.

d20 Future is a supplement to d20 Modern. It uses the d20 Modern core ruleset as the foundation, while d20 Future provides the additional rules to create and play a futuristic/sci-fi game.

Think HERO System Rulebook and Star HERO.
Well, unfortunately my reaction is :(. I don't have d20 Modern (though I have the SRD downloaded), and dont' really want to get it. I'd guess I'd have prefered d20 Future to be a standalone product. With the SRD free, I suppose I can't complain too muc.

They did this to boost d20 Modern sales, the way Planar Handbook is used to boost D&D sales.

Personally, it's not feasible to have yet another core rulebook product line. WotC should just stick to three of them right now: D&D, Star Wars, and d20 Modern.

Plus, given that I like the d20 Mod system, but am more interested in playing sci-fi than contemporary, I'm glad they got more stuff into the book. Not requiring the d20M book would have meant that there would have been next to nothing in there that was new.

With all the good reviews of this good...too bad I'm on a pre GenCon spending cut off from the wife unit...Maybe I'll pick it up at GenCon..

Any good stuff for using with a Traveller/T20 type D20 Future game?

Anyone have any idea what the post-apocalyptic game will be all about?

Please please tell me it will be like the old (REAL) gamma world setting? Like Jonathan Tweet's Omega World?

This would be great for two reasons: because GW/OW rocks, and because the last thing we need is another joyless uninspired overthought p-a setting a la GW 6th ed.

At the very least tell me that they won't use the "wealth" mechanics in it from D20 modern! how much sense does that make? You're in a post-apocalyptic world, but instead of having to count every last penny or barter your pound of beans for that wool coat you just have to roll a DC10 on your "wealth rating" to buy the coat no matter where you are or what you have!? Bwah?!

was just wondering. i thought there was supposed to be a cyberspace-like campaign setting. what ever happened to that idea?
My guess is too many material, not enough space.

That's what happened to GeneTech, originally the fourth campaign model planned for d20 Modern Core Rulebook.
