that attitude irks me as well, because it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.
people don't want to support d20 Modern because they think it won't sell well. if it doesn't sell well, one of the main reasons may be because it isn't supported.

You say one of the main reasons. I have heard other somber reasons, such as "d20 Modern, as it is written, is not fit for any genres other than fantasy." (Paraphrasing.)

Which reason do you mean that he said? Because it theoretically won't sell well (frell, no product has Universal Appeal), or because it won't get WotC support (feh, it'll get 3rd party support)?
And as to whether D20 Modern is fit for other genres than Modern (which is what I presume you meant to type)...well, it IS entitled "D20 Modern" afterall. Kind of makes such an arguement seem kind of... well... retarded. I don't expect Dungeons & Dragons to support -- as written -- a space opera campaign. I don't expect Vampire: the Masquerade -- as written -- to support a 50's Pulp campaign. Etc. I know that you weren't neccesarily putting that forth as your own arguement, but it's just an asinine one for someone to throw up.

:(

The people at Holistic Game Design would disagree with you. Their Columbia D20 product has no FX and was very well-written.

Hey, I'm just a messenger. I'm just telling you what the hate camp have said.

Me? I'm a proud owner of d20 Somalia and d20 Modern.

PS I am perfectly happy writing d20 Modern books, so my opinion doesn't stem from any desire or perceived need to do d20 Future stuff.

Well, if you don't make d20 Future stuff, I'll at least keep using the Modern books.(sort of fast forwarded)
