I just asked a question... I didn't realize there was so much political crap surrounding the plants...
Sorry I asked..
Chris

Don't take it personal Chris, seems every Gamma forum I've found has the "Plant Rant". You just stepped into it unknowingly. :)

I can live without plant PCs. They're silly. I don't understand why everyone getting hung up on such an insignifficant issue.

It's a control issue,

In general, gamers cannot stand being told what to do.

It's starts out, "Where are the plants?" "We're not doing plants." "Oh that bites"

Then it moves to "Could we request that you add plants in the next book." and we hear "The license forbids us from doing plants it didn't fit the feel the licenser wanted to have for the game" At that point it's no longer about plants.

It's about some big faceless corperation telling us how we're going to view their Gamma World. Being the rebels we are we say it's OUR Gamma World, not give us, um, whatever it is we were wanting.

Don't try to use logic when dealing with gamers we don't make much sence.

Lucid and concise. I want more. NOW, please. :-)

I'm most interested in how folks will react to the brand-new material. Anyone yet read the Blowing Up Your Neighborhood or Gamma World Campaign preview downloads at Sword & Sorcery, and if so, got any comments or questions?

Yes! First, I wanna say, "More!" Then I remember decorum and sheepishly sputter, "Thank you!" :-)

These bits of new material are the things I find most helpful for spinning my creative processes into useful directions. I have lots and lots of what (I think, I hope!) are fun things to incorporate into my game, but without a decent future post-historic framework to lay it all on top of I believe my game will end up feeling strangely hollow. By providing me with a points-for-consideration framework I'm better able to tie together in a (once again, hopefully!) coherent and sensible fashion all the story bits I want to present to my players.

More tools = more options and angles of approach = more fun for me as the GM in putting together my Gamma Age. And, of course, if the GM is having more fun that translates into greater potential for the players to enjoy themselves. That's why we're playing, eh?

GM Guide is scheduled for March? Aieee...

More, please. :-)

On Plant Matters a.k.a. plants matter?

I think being provided the means with which to create whatever sort of creatures we desire in our games, be they telekinetic plants or hyper-evolved bacteria or virtual constructs riding around in bio-shells (I [heart] Transhuman Space, btw), trumps being handed a single, static instance of Here There Be Plant-People, eh.

What sort of meta-creation capability will be provided in the corebooks? Something in Mutants and Machines, maybe?

"Problem" solved.

Speaking as a Playtester, it's cake.

Unofficial Rules for Playing Mutant Plants.

Use the exact same rules for playing a mutant animal. Seriously. You can generate a humanoid plant like Zhaan from Farscape or Audrey II. Really. Read the book, and when you read "mutant animal", in your mind say "mutant plant or animal."

Problem solved.

You're right, it is about your Gamma World. Regardless of who pulled the plug on them, if you want them in your game, then by all means, add them. No one's stopping you! If you want, put together your own version, post it to a message board, hire freelance artists to draw pictures, and even make some iconic plant NPCs. More power to you!

As for putting them in a book, the creative powers that be have said no. Your options are to abide by that decision, or work your way to the top to become one of the those creative powers so that you can be the one making the decisions. Take you pick, but the only thing complaining about it on a message board does is fuel the fires of apathy from those who think Bruce B. and co. have done a smash up job with this edition.

Sorry to sound harsh, but I speak from experience here. I was PO'd that death knights weren't in the Monster Manual. I made up a template, had that template and accompanying article rejected once by Dragon Magazine, later passed it on to the person doing MMII, and it eventually showed up both in The Living Greyhawk Journal in Dragon and in MMII.

You'll note you've seen no complaining from me.

I'm just providing an answer to the question of why people get worked up about it. Maybe not the right answer, maybe not the only answer but an answer.

I'm not one to make a big deal about it, but I do believe that the company making it should say, ok, if the players wan this tell the designers to add it, not tell the designers not to put it in no matter what the players say. I'm not speaking out against Bruce, more speaking out against anyone thinking they should tell the designer how to make the book.

But, the first and second editions of Gamma World didn't allow for PC plants. Then, in the third edition they FORCED us to add PC plants, MAKING us REDESIGN our worlds to APPEASE their FOUL CORPORATE WHIM. Now, finally, the REVOLUTION has WON and PC PLANTS are ****REMOVED****!!!! All POWER to the (non plant) PEOPLE!!!! We will NOT accept being COMPELLED to USE plants!

Grin....random illogic is great, ennit?

(You know, if the game is very popular and a later supplement isp rinted which does include PC plant rules, the reaction will not be "Hey, great, at long last!", but, rather, "You ripped us off! You FORCED us to buy this EXTRA book to get the rules that should have been in the first book! This is all a PLOT to get our money!")
