Does anyone know if anyone has tried to make a d20 conversion of the old Metropolis Kult game? If not, would anyone be interested in maybe working with me to make a d20 version of Kult?
For those of you who don't know about Kult, its probably one of the best modern horror RPGs ever printed. Basically, reality is not what humanity thinks it is. A carefully crafted Illusion has been made that shields humanity from servants of the Demiurge and Astaroth. In addition, the Demiurge crafted the Illusion to trap humanity and keep them prisoner, keeping them from obtaining higher enlightenment. The true world, invisible to us, is ruled by creatures who dominate behind the false facades, prison wardens and torturers of humanity. Now, the Demiurge has vanished, and his minions fight for supremacy, while the agents of Astaroth move from the Inferno into reality, and Astaroth desperately seeks the fate of the Demiurge. Characters in Kult are the special few who somehow suspect that there is more to reality than the bland ho-hum of everyday existance, but when they look for enlightenment, they always find more than the bargain for.
Part Hellraiser, part Prophecy, with a lot of new elements and twists, Kult was and is completely unlike any other game out there. The characters are dark heroes, normal people who either took the path of damnation or salvation to enlightenment, madness, or worse. There is no absolute good and evil- the Demiurge is not benign, and Astaroth is not without his merits. There are no elves, dwarves, or faeries, but there are legions of supernatural entities who are at best indifferent, at worst malign who monitor and dominate humanity. You won't find fireballs, teleportations, or spider climb occult powers, instead magic is broken down into lores of Death, Madness, Passion, and Dreams. Occultists are rarely proficient in more than one type of magic, and those who are attract supernatural attention.
This seems like it would be an ideal d20 Modern setting, but I'm not aware if anyone has attempted to convert it yet. Anyone interested?
