d20 Middle Earth "Eagle of the Star" (IC)

Halbarad muses silently on Vestri's news before turning to Thorongil, "What do you think, my friend? Our loyalties to the free peoples of the west seem to cross with the dwarf's wish for vengeance, yet I cannot deny that I would readily journey north. Perhaps these Bree-men in league with Orcs headed north also, that would simplify our decision."

OOC: Assuming Legolas is with Haldir, and if not he will go find him to discuss matters with him.

"What do you think of these matters my brother? I can make no decision on which path to take part. I will follow the direction of the rest of our group of new friends."

"That is what we must ascertain friend. As you say I have a vow to protect those of Breeland and beyond. If I can fulfill that vow while going north, well and good otherwise..."

After Vestri's revelation and request, Radagast calls on Elrond, [quenya]"My path is open and my purpose here at Imladris has been fulfilled. I feel pulled to the north and if Balin will have me, I can think of no better company to ramble on with. My thanks for your hospitality, son of the Morningstar, and I hope that when we meet again, our fences will have mended themselves."[/quenya] The Brown Wizard smiles and departs to find Balin.

OOC: I'm gonna be out of town until Monday, June 7th. I'll check back in then. Jay.

[sindar]"Your first duty is to Mirkwood and your father, Prince Greenleaf. But I am a servant of Lorien and the Lady sent me here to warn of the growing threat of Mordor against the Golden Wood. Perhaps I should not speak of it, but the Lady Galadriel feels her kin, Lord Elronds children would be better off back in Imladris. As soon as he has decided on a course of action, I will go where Lord Elrond bids me."[/sindar]

"yes my brother that is where my duty is... but as of now there is not a thread that i must be there for. Besides Mordor and the orcs, but that is almost an everyday occurance and they can handle those without me. But these occurances are not everyday and may become a threat to my homeland. This must be dealt with... both must be dealt with."

As day breaks, Elrond attends to his guests. As the party later realizes, little occurs in Rivendell that Elrond is unaware of. Moving silently through the halls of Rivendell, Elrond notes the tenor of their discussions.

In receiving Radagast that night, Elrond replies, "I am sure that your presence will serve as a stabilizing influence on the company. I bear no grudge in my heart for things now past Radagast, and I hope the future finds us to be better friends."

Later that morning, everyone gathers in the balcony of their lodging at Elrond's request. The new sun's light streams through the trees with the promise of another fine autumn day.

The master of Rivendell smiles and begins,"First I believe Vestri shall recover. He is however greatly weakened and should not travel. I believe some orc poison has been at work in his body. Most difficult to disern, but it is present. Though he wishes to go, he is in no condition."

Elrond walks forward among the group,"Of your intentions, I belive I have a good felling of your thoughts.

Of the rangers, your duty seems clear. And your efforts are ever appreciated by those of us who know what you do.

Balin's position is known, though I would caution him not to allow his passions to guide his actions too greatly.

And as for Radagast, he too indicates his willingness to assisst. His wisdom should be a valuable asset."

Turing to Haldir and Legolas, he continues,"As for my kin, I can no more command you as I could command the stars in the sky. I am greatly appreciative of the warnings brought from the Golden Wood. I am not, however, completely unaware of the threat from the East. It is because of this threat that I allow my children to wander, for soon the time may come that such freedom will be gone."

Elronds face darkens slightly."Know this- the threat from the Shadow is not contained in one region of the world. Mordor has many eyes, and ears, many spies ever working for the purposes of their masters. And though we may see the physical results of such evil in places such as Mirkwood or Mordor- know it is everywhere. I know not what the Dunlendings intend or what meaning lies in men working with orcs, but it has been my long experience that such threats threaten us all."

"However," he says his tone lightening, "I am no ones master here. The experience of Mirkwood and Lothlorien would be of great aid to this company, but it is not mine to command."

Walking to the balcony's edge he points to the ground below."To all that need them I shall furnish steeds and waybread for your journey. If anyone wishes to remain here they are welcome. Likewise any that wish to return to their homes are free to do so. The decision is yours."

Down in the courtyard, the group can see 4 grey ponies being brought out and saddled with brown saddles of elvish make. The steeds of Radagast and Thorongil likewise stand nearby, ready.

Legolas says, "steeds and food will be greatly appreciated Lord Elrond. Thank you for your hospitality."
Legolas goes downstairs and gets on one of the ponies and waits for the others.

Halbarad turns to Elrond, "Aye milord, both Thorongil and I are all too aware that the shadow stretches beyond the dark places of the world. That threat hangs over the free peoples of the west continually though they know it not. I would join this quest to discover why the Hillmen move north and Bree-men consort with orcs, yet I am duty bound to take my blade where it can best protect. I would ask a boon of you then, send word to Thorongil and my kinsmen as swift as you may, that we both may be free to search out the nature of this trouble with clear consciences."
