Radagast looks over the assembled group and smiles, [westron]"Well, it seems we have come to some agreement, but there are still other things to consider. Where shall we go now? Tracking the hillfolk seems the best course of action, but although I have my own way in the wilds of our lands, I am no ranger nor elvenkind. What say you? I shall follow your lead in this."[westron]

He then turns to Balin, [khuzdul]"And don't worry about your pony. I've had a talk with her and she's agreed to be as nice to you as you are to her."[/khuzdul]

"It would seem that the hillfolk are the emanent threat right now... but we did make a promise to a new friend that we would avenge his people...."
Legolas looks over to where the wounded dwarf is.

Chapter II- Heading West

October 23rd

The company mounts, a plan of action partly formed. Bidding Elrond farewell the group exits out the courtyard as many elves stand and watch silently. The company makes its way into the valley, and soon the House of Elrond is no longer in sight.

For several hours the group follows the road as it winds through the valleys surrounding Imladris, the weather cool and fine as they ride. They cross the ford of the Loudwater without incident and remaining vigilant follow the East Road westward. To the north the rough wooded wilds of the Trollshaws loom dark, to the south Hollin and Dunland beyond.

Around six in the evening, some ten miles west of the ford, and with dusk settling all around, the party pauses as Haldir notices a path ascending up a steep ridge north of the road( the groups right). The path itself looks to be rather old and well worn, but the surrounding thickets and underbrush look to have been cleared only recently. The ridge is about six feet high and 10 feet from the road.

Pausing, the group can hear voices on the other side of the ridge, voices that arre only slightly muufled by the vegetation that crowns the ridge. In fact, it seems to be two voices, speaking a crude form of Common and rather loudly:

Voice 1- (unintelligible) "Its too early, suns only gown down."

Voice 2-" Quiet, ya said ya wur hungry!"

Voice 1-" (unitelligable) blasted orcs, scarin tha game away (unitelligible) aint et in two days."

Voice 2-" Be Quiet! We check tha road then go back up tha path."

These 2 could be from the wildmen we encountered on the way to Rivendell. Those foes were easily conquered,,, but better be quiet in case it is something else.

Radagast looks to the rangers, putting a finger to his lips as he dismounts from his horse. The wizard quietly gathers the group's steeds together and casts Calm Animals on the lot of them.

Balin sniffs the air... scanning carefully for any sign of orc, goblin or wildman.

"I say we call them out! Those who consort with orcs are hardly worth worrying about!"

"If these be Hillmen they will likely flee at the sight of a large armed group such as us. I suggest that those of us most capable sneak behind them and cut off retreat. When they see they are surrounded and outmatched they can hopefully be persuaded to drop their arms and talk."
