[khazdul]"Oh, aye, I know who you be Radagast. And I'm sure yer know me too. I be Balin, he who travelled with Bilbo under the mountain! My fellow dwarf was attacked by wildmen, we wait for him to wake to know why! But what brings yer here?"[/Khazdul]

Haldir rushes after the Master of Imladris, and adresses him with unmatched urgency.
[quenya]"Lord Elrond, I bring tidings and greetings from Lothlorien!"[/quenya]

Elrond nods as everyone speaks. "I would well wish to hear all your tidings, and of the tale of your wounded friend. Balin of the company of Thorin, Legolas Greenleaf, and Haldir of the Galadhrim are most welcome visitors and emissaries."

Elrond extends his hands to the Men seated nearby. "And to the Rangers, Halbarad and Thorongil, I would say welcome home. To your appearance I am the most joyful"

"But to you Radagast the Brown, I must admit my heart has been darkened against you in the past. I mean no insult, but your long abscence from the world has not gone unnoticed. However, to all that may not know-Radagast is of the Wise of the land. Whatever I have felt in the past is forgotten, and I look forward to hear all you have to say."

As Elrond finishes, the dwarf in the adjoining room cries out. Sitting upright in the bed, he looks around and catching the sight of Balin cries out in common, "My brother, you must avenge my kin. The orcs.. the Bree-landers are in danger! I demand revenge brother, please you must aid me!"

The trio of elves ministering to the dwarf struggle to keep the him from jumping from the bed. Weakly the wounded dwarf falls back onto the bed, murmuring but still awake.

Thorongil looks first to Elrond his adoptive father, then to Halbarad his mentor. "It seems interesting times go with these interesting companions," he says gravely.

"Aye, and it seems no accident that we should all be at Imladris at this time and place. I'm sorry to say lad, but you may have to put off the meeting you desire for a while, if the men of Bree are threatened it is our duty to do what we may to help. Let us see what news our bearer of ill-tiding brings then.

Seeing his fellow Dwarf's pain and hearing his plea Balin runs forward to the bed and grasps hold of his weak hands:

"My brother! I will avenge ye! I swear it on the tomb o' me father!"

After adjoining to the other room to see to the injured dwarf's care once again, Radagast turns to Balin, [khazdul]"Come saviour of Erebor, let us return to the table. I remember you, son of Fundin, and if your brother here is to be avenged, then there is much we must discuss first. As you will see shortly, my purpose will become quite clear, although you may not wish to hear of it."[khazdul]

During Elrond's admonishment, the brown mage lowers his head. When he is done, the Wizard raises his head once more, staring directly into the half-elven's eyes, [quenya]"Your dissatisfaction has its merit, Lord of Imladris. I am here in part to make amends for my solitary ways. You of all people should know that the past is the past, however. As you have said, let us look forward, shall we? In time, I hope our alliance shall mend itself."[/quenya]

With that, Radagast turns to the rest, [westron]"I recently had the good fortune of crossing paths with the Grey Wanderer. What he had to tell me was not fortuitous, however. He pressed upon me the need to bring this information to Elrond's attention, hence my sudden appearance here at Rivendell."[/westron]

The grey-bearded old man begins to pace as he relays Gandalf's warning, [/westron]"It seems that the hill-folk are on the move, making their way northwest, no doubt soon to cross the Glanduin. The rooks fill the air above them." [/westron]

Radagast stops his pacing a draws out his pipe from his robes, as he tamps some weed into the bowl of it, he continues, [westron]"To add to that message of distress, two days ago I myself came upon the bodies of a half-dozen slaughtered orcs just the off the Great East Road. The rooks were there as well and upon talking to them, I found out that goblins from the north had done the killing. The grave of a small human was there as well, although I do not know the significance of it."[/westron]

The Wizard takes the seat at the opposite end of the long table from Elrond. After pulling a slow tug off his pipe, he exhales slowly and asks the others, [westron]"What do you make of these bad omens? Seems strange that such crude folk should be marching about at the same time we are all drawn together here in this safehouse, eh?"[/westron]

"hmm, these are strange occurances indeed. I do not know what to make of these, but my gueses are goblins did not do the killing of those orcs. It owuld take many many goblins to take care of that task, and there would still be many goblins lost... and u say there were no goblin bodies there, although there is a human 1. I say they did the killing, but the orcs do deserve everything they get, those vile creatures are more murderous than any other creatures i have seen. Maybe the hillfolk are just exacting their revenge on the raiding orcs?

Maybe our new dwarven friend has more to do with this than we may think... After driving off the attacking wildmen, i found that they had dropped this... Does anyone notice anything distinct about it? I do not."
Legolas shows the spear to everyone.

Elrond listens, his attention becoming more focused as the talk turns to Radagast's message. "This is strange news , indeed. But I have heard little of the outside world, since my best scouts, my sons, have gone off to the House of Celeborn-along with their sister."

Legolas produces the spear. To everyone the shortspear appears to be a simple weapon, wood shaft with iron tip. Its style is definately that of Men and not orc.

Elrond stands. "I see no reason why the hill men would come north, Legolas Greenleaf. There is little for them to find of value in Eriador now-long years of war and disease have seen to that. But I find this troubling nonetheless-I would not wish to see the specter of war rise from Dunland."

"I shall go to strengthen the watch on our borders. Find yourselves lodging and be at ease." Elrond pauses. "I can make no pronouncement for you, nor command your actions. I hold none of you by oath or fealty to act upon the tidings you bring this night. Of the Rangers, as Halbarad has said hold themsleves as guardians of the lands and wilds to the west. To the others, the choice is yours. Whatever, you decide I shall aid you with whatever things you may need that are at my disposal."

Elrond bows and leaves.

Time passes

Night falls on Riverdell. Balin stays nearby the wounded dwarf. Halabard and Thoringil convene to themsleves, and Radagst gathers with the elves as they wander Imladris.

Late into the night, the wounded dwarf stirs and calling Balin to him speaks with a strained voice. However the quiet acoustics of Rivendell allow his words to be heard by all of the group within their part of the House of Elrond.

"I am Vestri, son of Austri, brother. I am told I have you and your frineds to thank for my life-for that I am most grateful." the dwarf begins. "I fear there is a strange trouble coming. But let me tell you of my tale."

"My kin and I came from the Blue Mountians wishing to cross to Erebor to join the rest of our clan. We are but simple miners. For many weeks we travelled tilll we came to Bree. We stopped to rest and reprovision. The Bree folk seemed rather cautious of strangers, and the Inn there was too full for our group of ten."

" However a man and his wife by the name of Reaver gave us shelter in their farm. So there we stayed for many days. They were kind to us, and told us of the dangers of the wild. They also inquired much of our business and destination, often jesting that we were tomb robbers and treasure huntures. But they seemed to be good folk."

Vestri leans forward."Soon we left, and after perhaps a week we crossed near the Trollshaws. Late at one night we were attacked by a force of goblins, some two score in strength. We slew many, but many of my kin were killed and soon we were defeated. But to my surprise, we were not killed but taken captive."Vestri falls silent for a moment.

"The orcs took us north into the rough ground of the Trollshaws. They moved slowly and only at night for they hated the daylight. And everywhere they went, the orcs would search every hill, cave, gully and crevice. We went north for 2 days until.."Vestri's voice trails off.

"While encamped at night, a great tulmut rose out of the darkness of the night. Out of the shadows, accompanied by the sounds of baying wolves, came 2 figures-a man and a woman dressed in dark hooded cloaks. The goblins treated these figures with reverence and fear, and the two spoke with them with authority and in the goblin's own vile tounge. Imagine my horror then, when beneath the cloaks I recognized the two-they were the Reavers-the same folk who had given shelter to my kin and myself!"

Now speaking more rapidly, Vestri leans closer to Balin, as if forgetting his wounds."The Reavers left and the goblins seperated their numbers. A part went east, another part went west. The greatest number went north, and this part took several of my kin with them. I and a few of my cousins stayed with the remaining orcs. The orcs set themsleves as if a guard patrolling and watching at night. They also tortured us one by one killing us each in turn, to satisfy thier horrid hunger."

"I was soon the last captive left alive, and I thought it would be my fate to die there. But on the second night after the seperation of the orcs, my captors were themselves attacked, by a force of wild men. I thought I was being rescued until one of the men attacked me. In the midst of the combat, I made my escape, taking the only horse the goblins had not killed and made my way east. I wandered for perhaps two days. Without food or provisons and with a weakend mount, I relaized I was being tracked by the wild men. I made for the river, but thought that I would die- until I came upon you and your fellows."

Vestri graps Balin hand with surprisong strenghth."I understand little of what has occured, brother, but I fear some evil is at work. How could Bree folk be in league with goblins? If this is true, Bree is in danger."

Vestri bows his head." Though I am not kindred to you except as a fellow son of Durin, I ask that you find my kin that went north.I know that I am already in your debt for saving my life, and I hold little hope that they might still live, but I ask that those who have slain my kin to be punished. Please."

Night passes as the group reflects and rests and the day begins to dawn.

(OOC feel free to RP as you wish, even "postdating" actions, questions etc.. if you wish for the night. All of you regardless of your actions heard Vestri's conversation. )
