[d20 Modern] Another weird campaign idea...

You're nuts.

And licensed to practice law. It's a scary world.

Although I currently have Ohara-do as an adaptable style [like standard ninjitsu], I'm actually tempted to stat it as a combination style instead, just because there are so many interesting combinations available. Maybe some of the recruits from outside the family could have a background in something funky [say, a Shotokan Karate / Scorpion style, or a weird kenjitsu variant].

Unsing both the Ninja class and the Martial Arts Master makes for some interesting choices, too...in some respects, I think the latter might be better suited to what I have in mind. Still pondering...

Great idea JPL.

I can see a spin-off forming in my mind...

Ninjas meet Lucha Libre meets the war on drugs in a late-80's setting. Maybe even toss in just a *little* Blood and Vigilance for some extra over-the-top funky moves as long as were talking about my other favorite Chuck titles.

It would be like Mucha Lucha with funky sound effects ("hi-YA! whoosht"). And subtitles. Bad Guy/Good Guy monologing with non-matching mouth movements totally optional, but encouraged.

It could work.

Okay, by hell or high water I'm getting to GenCon next year, and I'm turning a game table or a hotel room or a bar or something into the "Hit Me With The Whole Loaf" zone, where we can take turns running insanely great games based on all these brilliant ideas.

There'll be Dino-Pirates of Ninja Island, Thunderball Rally, Teenage Hot-Rod Werewolves From Mars and of course GI Joe: Ninja Force! Who's with me?

I like to "cast" my NPCs...I'm thinking the team leader is played by the great Cary Tagawa from "Mortal Kombat." He's an old-school 1980s Ultimate Killing Machine, a la Snake-Eyes, the Punisher, and Wolverine.

Wish I had my books with me...I'd like to try a few different builds for this guy. Since I'm assuming he's been out there doing ninja things since Vietnam, he could easily be 18th-20th level.

Maybe George Takei can play his older brother...more of the Contemplative Master / Sensei type, retired from active field duty and concentrating on training the younger recruits. I always like to see Takei get some work, even the imaginary kind.

Ah, Cary Tagawa. One of those "That Guy" guys. Those guys that every time you see them, you're like, "Hey! It's that guy!"

There's also that Japanese guy with the mustache who died right at the start of Godzilla. I dunno who he is, but every time I see him: "Hey! It's that guy!"

Al Leong, the guy I've dubbed 'the generic Asian bad guy'. He was one of the Wing Kong gang members in Big Trouble in Little China, one of the first terrorists that John McLain killed in Die Hard (C4 lobbed down the elevator shaft that took out the bottom floor), Genghis Khan in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, a bunch of Andy Sidaris films, Lethal Weapon (the dude torturing Mel Gibson), etc.

But there's also Gerald Okamura. He was the Wing Kong with the gold plated revolvers. Here's both of 'em with Alec Baldwin from The Shadow.

Gerald's on Alec's right while Al is on his left in case you're curious.
