d20 Modern as low fantasy

i'll second that those are 'wicked cool' and 'great' :D

one question though - under 'magical'; dispel magic and divination are skills?

[edit - okay, two questions :p have you considered giving Endurance as a feat option for Peasants?]

Oh yeah, sorry about that. :)

But yes, for the magical occupation I used the skills from elements of magic and a feat called Magical Talent (I will post it when I get home) as the base. The idea was that I could make various magical advanced classes as +1 spellcasting levels on the chart included in Elements of Magic with spell lists restricted depending on your advanced class.

If you are using the core magic system, you might want to go ahead and drop out those that you do not recognize. Perhaps add a few more that are appropriate for your setting.

Edit: Actually Endurance would probably work even better than Great Fortitude! Thats a great idea :)

thanks :D

IMO, i would still have two or three feat options for peasants, or it's probably not going to be that attractive for a player to take...

(you may even include Run and/or Toughness)

I'd really like to see what you've got on this. I've been cobbling together magical advanced classes, largely based on customized spell-lists and special abilities from all kinds of magical prestige classes. I want to have a good half dozen magic using advanced classes, all with a different flavor and feel for the player.

I have Elements of Magic, but haven't been able to read much of it yet. I'm real curious to see what work you've done on this.

me too!

i do think organizational Prestige Classes are going to work really well for a d20 Modern based game (like magic guilds, cabals, etc.). a lot of the WotC PrCs could be adapted to this, powered up for some since PrCs in Modern are meant to start after 7+ character levels...

Eh, mine are typically powered down to represent the fact that these guys start out as 1st level casters when they pick up the 1st level of a spell-casting advanced class. After all, I'm looking to convert d20 Modern into a standard fantasy genre because I want low fantasy. If you power them up, why don't you just use D&D classes?

you're right. i just meant that a PrC that's harder to qualify for (requiring higher levels) are usually more powerful than PrCs that are easily qualified for, that all...

I am actually seeking to do something around the D&D magic level with this. (Though it is going to cap out at the 17th level of spellcasting ability since you can't enter advanced classes in d20 Modern until you are level 4, and thats where I am putting the spellcasting classes.)

I haven't fleshed anything out for any of my planned magical advanced classes so far. As I noted above I am just going to take the spellcasting progression found in Elements of Magic (which has both half-levels and full levels of magic) and combine it with a restricted set of spell lists that are appropriate to the class.

If you like, I can post them as I do them though.

What did you have in mind for classes Joshua?

I agree, thought I think advanced classes are much, much better than this as they allow for people to be a member of an organization that trains people differently without making most of them high level.
