D20 Modern Publishers

I can remember something about a D20 Modern messageboard for publishers only.

Would it be possible for any of the publishers out there to put their hands up and maybe give out a bit of info on what they have planned for D20 Modern.

We are currently under licence negotiations for a few planned D20 Modern releases, so I cannot say too much right now - except that they are going to be _seriously_ cool

TG is also in on this and while we have "plans" it is also very early in the game to mention anything . But we are looking forward to a fun, modern role playing venue.

Well, to answer your question there is certainly a forum for publishers who will be working with d20 modern.

Like the guys above, we have a d20 modern project coming! We can't say to much yet though. Their is some very basic info on our d20 modern project at our site under The Hunt: Fall of Man.

Well, speaking as an outside observer who has seen previews of the hero classes (based on relevant ability) in Dungeon/Polyedron, I can hope that they change the application of class/cross-class skills, or add to it, such as CoC use of profession templates (a list of relevant career skills as class skills).

And if Wizards going to include rules variants, I would love to see, in addition to HP and the standard VP/WP health system, a wound-level health system, such as those found in Vampire: The Masquerade or LUG's Star Trek RPG.

Just curious Reg; what do you see as the advantage of a wound level system of the HP system?

The natural way I'd implement it would be to just grant 1 wound level for every 5 or so hit points but then its just hit points with smaller numbers. That might be nice for dovetailing with Chainmail or some other minis system but I'm not sure what else it would be useful for.

To sorta keep on-topic, the Second World Sourcebook coming out in December will support d20 Modern and provide a "bridge" setting between d20 Fantasy and d20 Modern in addition to a mish-mash of other stuff. The basic idea being to make it easy and interesting to move your players' characters back and forth between a modern game and fantasy game.

Just curious Reg; what do you see as the advantage of a wound level system of the HP system?

The various penalties related to the several degrees of injury or wound the character has taken.

In fact, a lot of gamers like the wound level system over the VP/WP. I just like to see if it can be done. So this is probably an open challenge to any creative, innovative d20 game designers

Currently the way I've seen VP/WP systems is they hit you with the fatigued condition when you've lost all Vitality Points. This works out to -2 Strength and -2 Dex plus some other minor stuff.

That effectively only gives you one injury level but I've discovered (for myself at least) that I only really need a nod towards this sort of thing to make it feel okay. Having played Shadowrun a lot I found the injury penalties there pretty severe and lead to a real death spiral.

I've mentioned this on some other board. One system I think would be kind of fun to experiment with would actually make characters tougher as they lost hit points. Bruce Willis kicks serious butt once he's on the verge of death.

Death spirals suck, and wound levels are little more than hit points in denial anyway. There's no appreciable difference, so why bother with changing them?
