d20 Modern to M&M Conversion Guidelines?

Question:

Does anyone have guidelines that converts d20 modern creatures and characters to Mutants & Masterminds?

On a case-by-case basis, it's pretty easy, as with most things in M&M. But I assume you mean a framework for doing so. . . hm, nope. I've seen a few D&D->M&M guides, and they're sitting on the hard drive somewhere or other, but d20 Modern - not too surprisingly, I guess - just hasn't received the same attention.

Are you keen on coming up with a rough guide yourself? I mean, if there just isn't one around yet.

I'm not really looking to design my own guideline. I'd rather let someone else do the basic work for me. ;)

A D&D to M&M guide could be useful, however. D&D and d20 Modern are similar enough that such a guide could help convert from d20 Modern to M&M.

OK, typical. Now I went and said that, can I find a decent conversion on this hard drive? Well, not so much.

So actually, I'd suggest checking out Joshua Dunlow's thread over at atomicthinktank.com - it's still on the first page of the Settings forum, atm, and the most recent post (or thereabouts) actually has a link to a nearly complete document of fantasy rules and conversions, including stuff like what levels translate to what PLs, roughly, and that kind of thing. Neat stuff.

Also, 'prodigyduck' (I think that's the right username) has converted a whole bunch of D&D monsters over to M&M, and about half the PHB spells from 3.5 as well. Monsters have also been done by a number of other posters there. I'm pretty sure prodigyduck's thread in Roll Call will also be on the front page of that forum; it's often been. A number of people have also put fantasy characters, modern-based characters, sci-fi characters and so on in the Roll Call forum.

So, not as much actual guideline stuff as I thought, but some, and plenty of damn fine examples of how things can translate.

FYI... I asked this same question on The Atomic Think Tank and someone there recommended that I look at the Hit Point rules in the Mastermind's Manual, which could be used to help convert from D&d/d20 Modern to M&M.

I took that suggestion to heart. I went out and bought a copy. There is a lot of good stuff in that book and I can see it being very useful in helping me do conversions.

Still, I have to finish reading the main book. B-)

Those are some weird Mind Flayers.
Their facial tentacles are purely cosmetic, the brains they pull out of others continue to function normally, they can all fly, and they can all hop to any and all dimensions in the campaign with a move action (making them almost impossible to capture).

Honestly, I'd go with something more like the following:
Mind Flayer Template (94 pp) PL 7+
+8 Int, +6 Wis, +6 Cha
Feats: Improved Grab, Improved Initiative, Master Plan
Powers:
Additional Limbs 3 (four facial tentacles),
Drain Intelligence 5 ("Brain Extraction"; Power Feats: Improved Grapple, Flaw: Limited to grappled target [-1], Extra: Linked to Disintegration [+0] -- Disintegration 5 [Extra: Linked to Drain; Flaw: Touch Range [-1], Limited to grappled target [-1], Limited to 0 Int targets [-1]], Limited to disintegrating creature's brain [-0])
Stun 7 (Extra: Alternate Save [Will] [+0], Area Cone [+1]; Flaw: Touch Range [-1])
Nullify 15 (all Magic effects; Extra: Power Resistance [+1])

All the essential mind flayer abilities in a template easily added to a base type of character (any of the NPC types in the back of the books, or any other neat character you think would be a good mind flayer). The creature becomes at least a PL 7 (if they weren't already), and is a brain eating horror that can coup de grace a helpless foe by eating their brain (disintegration of the critter's mind). The facial tentacles can be used for a wide variety of purposes, but are less precise than a main hand (-4 off-hand penalty). The feats represent a creature used to struggling prey, and the creation of long-term plans and carefully executed stratagems.

It should be easy enough to rough. CR becomes Power Level. Defense bonus becomes defense bonus. BAB is equal to BAB, or possibly BAB + Str or Dex bonus if they rely basically on one attack. DCs are the same, within the PL limits. DR becomes protection with invulnerability. The damage and hit point conversions in the Mastermind's Manual should work well enough.
