d20 Modern: Two weeks and counting

Any one got an idea of when we should expect to see them in the local gaming stores?

I believe Charles Ryan stated on the Wizards boards that it'll be out the week of November 9.

But unsubstantiated rumors have suggested that it'll be out even sooner than that --- which I guess at this point means next week.

SInce I, too, bought it on the cheap from buy.com with the free [slow] shipping...maybe Thanksgiving?

I admit that the damage system doesn't appeal to me. It's workable, but seems to me that the better system was sacrificed for compatiblity. That's ok, I can easily import VP/WP

My main reason I am so eagerly awaiting it... The class system.

In my opinion, the Ability score based class system is the best thing to hit d20 since the creation of d20 itself. All the benifits of a class based system, yet freeform and flexible enough to define any character from any setting any time any genre.

Amazon, not Buy. ;)

Silly! Amazon has free FedEx ground shipping (5-10 business days) on orders over $25... including the $27.97 D20 Modern book. I'll pay the extra three dollars. ;)

Grrr...

We'll see. Amazon has let me down a time or two lately.

If you get it first, let us know what the skinny is.

I pre-ordered it on Amazon with a leftover Bar Mitzvah (don't congratulate me, it was 10 months ago) gift certificate.

Personally, I use VP/WP for my DnD games, so am used to converting stuff. There are two mechanics that I use to handle crits: One is that damage is multiplied as normal but not always dealt to VP, the other is that instead of being multiplied, the attack gains a damage bonus of (crit multiple-2)x2 or 3 to damage, and it is dealt to WP.

I WILL congratulate you. I thought I was the only 13-year-old Jewish boy on here. Nice to know I'm not!
Now, a gratuitous on-topic sentence to avoid having people yell at me:
I can't wait for d20 Modern, either.

I'm not Jewish but I'm a 13 year old boy! (Which explains my babbling, poor typing, and overall lack of brainpower ;) )

We should start a club of 13 year olds. We could call it: Triskadeckaphelia, or The Hormone Crazed...

and I'm looking forward to d20 modern for my cross-genre campaign.

I have to admit (even though I like the concept), the classes don't grab me. The Strong guy, the Intelligent guy ect. Why not have a classless system instead of these vague classes.

Has anyone seen a list of what will be in the table of contents.

Hit points means less work importing material from the 500-plus d20 products which already use hit points. It was a tough call to make, but I think it was the right call.

I so don't think it was the right call. First off, porting stuff over to VP/WP is a lot easier than retrofitting VP/WP into the combat system, and their spin on hp only fixes one of the four major problems of the hp system that the VP/WP system fixes.

You may be right.

Tell me more about these four major problems. Maybe we can fight about it.
