d20 Star Wars Saga Edition news from Gen Con?

Trust me, I'm used to this when I'm a Trekkie and I had to stomach any story written and aired by Brannon Braga and Rick Berman.

We are in complete agreement over Trek. i wish the folks writing the trek novels were in charge of the story direction for Trek in film. For the most part, they really seemed to have tapped into the Trek-zen making books that can surpasse their inspirations. The DS9 Relaunch and Vanguard series are simply great.

As for Star Wars, the Prequel movies have gotten me back into Star Wars after a 15 year pause. So I am just now being exposed to the EU and things like Tales. Overall I have been impressed. Cloak of Decpetion was crazy good. i wish it had been made into a film to prequel TPM.

As for the Saga edition, We are just now starting a 1e D20 Star Wars campaign. I look forward to seeing what the Saga edition does for the system. Hopefully on the WOTC site there will be some good conversion guidelines becasue I have a lot of SWd20 material from the internet. I'd hate to see it all go to waste.

Meh. The last Trek novel I read is The Final Reflection. After that, I decided not to confuse myself with stories and elements from novels with my knowledge of episodes and films in most of my Trek discussion since novels are deemed non-canon.

Not so with SW franchise, who I firmly believed that EU -- including the NJO series is canon. I may not like what happened -- e.g., can't believe Chewie's dead despite his final heroic deed -- but I have to accept it ... including the boring Jedi Academy Trilogy by Kevin J. Anderson.

Future Support

I understand the gag order and NDAs associated with projects. I'll not waste my time asking for additional details. I look forward to the new system - hope it improves upon my already good times playing the SW RCR system.

I did want to know if you could answer 2 questions - at least directionally:

1. Is SW Saga going to receive additional support??? (More books in the future?)
2. If the answer to 1 is unknown or no - Will there be conversions available for already printed d20 SW books?

I worry that when SWS comes out it will be so different (especially around force use) that it will make it hard to do conversions of existing books. Without additional support (new books or web conversions) it will be a hard sell for me to change systems. (I may still buy the book, but it would be a like to have instead of a must have).

Thanks,

I watched the video on GamingReport, and the speaker said that although they couldn't mention any details about anything that would be published beyond March(?), that the supplements and accessories that they will be doing are going to be in the second and third trimesters of the year, and that they have a number of things planned.

They've created a damage track which is apparently similar to the minis (I don't know, I don't play minis) and removed conditions like shaken and dazed. As I understand it, as your hit points go down, you move along the damage track incurring cumulative penalties.

See now this could be good, it has the simplicity of HP, just one thing to track, but has more detail than, OK/Unconcious/Dead. If it's nice I might have to pinch it for D&D.

Well, the final Refection came out about 6 years ago, and they have a new editor now. The new editor has decided to cut back on the production of Trek Books in order to make the lines stronger and leaner and increase the quality. Kind of a focused less is more, allowing the editor to maintain a much closer eye on all of the trek material coming out. It is this that i was referring to, not the older trek. Some of the exciting series that might interest you...

Star Trek Titan: A Series about Rikers first command. It takes place after Nemesis and chronicles a completely mutltiracial/cultural crew in an episodic format. There are only three books out there right now.

Star Trek Vanguard: A new series set in the TOS era with an original cast. Starfleet has just popped a huge space station in the Taurus Reach, between the Klingons and Tholians and unwittingly awoken something dark and ancient. Kind of a DS9 (but darker) feel set during kirk's first year on the Enterprise. In a serial format, there are only two books out for this... very dark and adult.

Lost Era: As series of books that chronicle gaps in trek history. Among them is Art of the Impossible, which connects Star Trek VI and the DS9 and chronicles the Betreka Nebula incident in which the Klingons and Cardassians fought back and forth over 17 or so years.

A Time To.... A series that chronicles the time between Insurrection and Nemesis for the TNG gang. I haven't read all of these, but the last three (Kill, Heal, and for War and Peace) are some of the best trek fiction I have read.

IKS Gorkon. A series of three book set on a Klingon warship.

DS9 Relaunch. if you liked DS9, this continues the tale beyond the seventh season and is as good as the show was at its best. As Ds9 was my favorite i love it. like Ds9 is is more (but not completely) serial in format.

They just did a Voyager relaunch, but i am not a voyager fan so i haven't dipped in. Same with Enterprise Relaunch.

You might dip back into trek. It is pretty robust and strong right now.

As for Star Wars EU, I am just now getting into that. I have been alternating and reading a book set in the Prequel era and then Post Empire. I am only a few books in, and am enjoying it. Both prequel era books I read were great. Shadows of the Empire was pretty good, and I am reading bakura now and that is good. It will probably be a while before I get to the NJO (I am slowly picking them all up), but I am excited to read them!

Good Times and good discussion!

Let's all agree that however we feel about the Prequel Trilogy films by George Lucas, they are part of the Star Wars Saga and therefore must be reflected in the new rulebook (along with the Original Trilogy ... err, Special Edition where Han didn't shoot first).

And the same goes for the Holiday Special, where Chewbacca's dad Itchy had virtual reality sex with Jefferson Starship, and Bea Arthur is a bartender in Tattooine.
