D20 Supers Thought

I have been wanting to design my own D20 Supers homebrew. I just had a thought: What if Powers could could be gained using the DnD spell progression based off the sorcerer or wizard? Anyone have thoughts on this?

Okay let me be a bit clearer. There would be three groups of powers: Minor, Intermediate and Major. Levels 1-6 would grant you minor powers, levels 7-12 would grant you intermediate powers and levels 13-20 would grant you major powers. Of course there would be the option of upgrading a power from minot to intermediate thaen to major. Hope this clears things up. Anyone have any thoughts?

In terms of rules structure, that sounds a little like the spellsongs for the alternate bard presented in the Book of Eldritch Might. No reason why it wouldn't work from a mechanical standpoint, though it doesn't necessarily match the comics that well. You might want to take a look at the MMORPG City of Heroes, which uses a system somewhat similar to what you describe.

If I were going to build a d20 Supers system from scratch, I would probably use a feat-and-skill system, similar to the way the Force is handled in WOTC's Star Wars. But I don't really see a need for building something from scratch, there are some decent systems out there already - for compatibility with other d20 stuff, Blood and Vigilance would be my choice. If you want a standalone game that's d20-style, Mutants and Masterminds would be a good choice - doesn't fit my personal tastes, but a lot of people like it and it's really nicely put together.

I do own Mutants and Masterminds. It isn't a bad system. It seems easy enough to grasp. However, I would like to take on such a project so that I can build up my ability to do such things. Eventually I would like to do freelance work or work for a company, but I need some experience. Possibly working on a project that might even help me get published. Catch my drift?

Anyway thanks for the input, I will look into City of Heroes, thanks for the tip.
