No idea what the article says, but my assumptions are that it's a fun movie (I saw it, I know this is true) that was released at a bad time. I think Mario brothers was on at the same time, money was tighter so people were quite possibly picking what to watch and honour among thieves missed out.

Tickets are also really quite expensive now, I wouldn't be surprised if people are only going to see movies in theatres that they really want to see in theatre, otherwise people are content to wait until streaming; something I do all the time.

Because it is a good movie, and people heard it is good, so gave it a chance when it hit the world's biggest movie watching platform.

It was sandwiched between the last John Wick movie and Mario. It was really bad timing. It seemed to me too that they emphasized the special effects too much in the previews at a time when people were tired of it.

Had there been more time to have word of mouth spread it probably would have done better.

When it was on Prime in the US it had six week stretch in their top 10 too.

Also, what keeps getting left unsaid is that it was filmed during peak covid-restrictions for Hollywood. Removing that would eliminate about 10% of the cost.

And it might have been even higher due to heavy travel (they filmed in UK, Ireland, Iceland, Atlanta and LA iirc)
