Daily Powers don't belong on the Fighter

I hope the Warlord never shows its face as it was in 4e. I do not want some non-caster healing anyone or somehow making you move faster simply by shouting.
I desperately hope we don't have to go back to relying on magic to recover hit points that are largely not physical damage. If part of hit points is skill and luck (which it is), you shouldn't need magic to get chunks of that "back".

If part of your hit points are physical damage (which it is) you should require magic to heal it. That is why I always assumed natural healing in D&D was faster than RL, it is sort of averaging out the physcial and non physical components. The two are in tension. You cant entirely dismiss the nonphysical part, nor can yipou entirely dismiss the physical. Healing in a day dismisses the physical entirely.

I don't have a problem with certain types of daily fighter powers. As long as there's a fairly generic pool of "higher performance" resources to spend like barbarian rage, then the power is easy to use and not too difficult to wrap your brain around. What I really don't want are a set of arbitrary powers usable once per day that bear no relationship to anything else the fighter builds his skills with. 4e martial dailies are an example of the latter that I emphatically don't want.

I really like the idea of the warlord. I've always wanted a way to model Croaker from the Black Company books. I didn't care fore 4E's implementation though. I'm hoping they come up with something better this time around.

Must admit I agree, I am really looking forward to the 5th edition Warlord.

I'm OK with the fighter and guardian theme as presented so far. I'd prefer a more interesting fighter, but I recognize that that isn't what they're going for in the playtest version.

Agree. I am looking forward to bring in more interesting tactical options which include daily powers. I dont think low level fighters need to have an array of daily moves.

But I have zero difficulty imagining daily powers for fighters. A wizard has X amount of energy to perform tasks - and he knows how much power he has so can ration it in a tactical fashion. So can a mundane fighter in my view. The nature of daily powers is the recognition that the PC knows their limits.

I dont find circumstantial abilities of the fighter, ie cleave or environmental powers like swinging on the chandelier to be full substitutes for having a fighter (or other mundane character) have a limited amount of capacity to perform powerful blows.
