Damage reduction question

Quick clarification on DR....Do magicical weapons +1 or better ignore 5/silver, 15 adamantine, 5/blunt etc. or do you specifically have to have that material, item, alignment to bypass the DR.
I am sure that it is the latter but the SRD (updated to 3.5) is a bit unclear on it.

If it is that way a +5 keen sword is still going to effect the skeleton with 5/blunt the same as having a MW dagger..expect the sword is magical and the +5 at least will help take away the 5 DR..hehe

One last thing is 15/(insertmaterial,alginment,etc.) the highest DR goes now or do epic have 15+ DR?

SRD seems to state that there isn't a "DR beating progression table" where iron < silver < +1 < etc...

Nowadays (ie 3.5) if you don't have the particular characteristic to your weapon, you're hosed. That's why the DR numbers were reduced, IIRC.

As above, with clarification. If it says you need silver or magic or cold iron, you need that. Nothing overrides anything else anymore.

The numbers were lowered to make it so the monsters with DR would be possible to beat without that kind of weapon (albeit with much difficulty). The classic example was the iron golem. With 30/+3 damage reduction, were you *really* going to ever bother attacking with less than a +3 weapon? It might as well have been immune to anything less than +3.

So now the max I've seen is 15/x, which is still a heck of a lot of damage to power through, but they're generally on monsters CR 10+ when that kind of damage is at least somewhat feasible.

Does anyone know of anything that needs Lawful, aka the lawful ki strike a monk gets? Or is this just a lame gimmie they did? Would it be too powerful to not have monks get good or evil, with neutral monks picking which one like neutral clerics choosing to turn or rebuke undead.

It seems that most things I've found that have good or evil have cold iron, silver, or some other such stuff so it wouldn't be the ultimate thing to have but it would help in those instances of good/evil only DR resistances.

EDIT: Ok, just thumbed through again the whole Monster Manual, and there isn't one creature that has a Chaotic or Lawful DR. Why the heck did they even do that to the monk?

I thinks Vestments of Faith are 5/evil....

Well, either they've been renamed, moved, or they've been completely removed from the 3.5 DMG. I can't find them.

X/good, X/cold iron or good, X/good and cold iron.

Yeah, don't see Vestments of Faith anymore.

Ok, so Grey and Death slaads..hmm, only ones that are lawful DR. Um...*sigh* ok. That is, well, kinda lame, but I guess being good and magic would just be too much? I would kinda think a figher has a magical plus blank weapon by 10th level. I was so happy they made 4th level magic, but this lawful thing is just silly. I'm sure a 10th level fighter will have a magical silver/cold iron weapon, and probably aligned by this point.

*sigh* :(
