Dark Alliance... any good?

Has anybody tried the Dark Alliance console game? Could you give an opinion of the game, compared to, say, the Baldur's Gate series? Thank you.

The only thing Dark Allince has in common woth the BG computer games is the name. It plays like diablo, its very fun IMO. Lots of ways to customize your character.

Dark Alliance is nothing like the PC Baldur's Gate series, so don't buy it thinking you're going to be playing BG on the console. Dark Alliance is pretty much Diablo mixed with D&D, with a better but still pretty dry story. I highly suggest renting the game before you go out and buy it.

Dark Alliance is a lot like Gauntlet or D&D Heroes. I personally enjoyed it, especially when I played with friends.

It can be finished in about 12 hours so if you rent it for five days and play about 3 hours a day you can beat the whole game without ever buying it.

There are a couple of annoying timed jumping parts. I hate that type of stuff in video games.

I don't recall _any_ jumping in BGDA at all, but there is a timed thing called "The Gauntlet" once you complete the game that either unlocks a fun character or a more difficult mode. Ugh, that was frustrating to get through. Cool game, tho. I'm looking forward to the sequel, assuming none of the problems with BIS impact it.

Take care,

We loved it, although it's a little too short. It's even cooler that you can play with two people. We must have played it through two or three times.

The annoying jumping bit only takes place in one segment (
thieve's guild
), and it is a pain in the ass that breaks up the flow of the game - but once you figure out the pattern, it doesn't take long to get through that part.

There was section where platforms dropped under you if you stayed there too long, and you had to jump from one to another before you fell.

It's pretty fun, though as mentioned, it's an action game, though with RPG stats (mostly 3e). More action orientated than Diablo, more RPG-ish than Gauntlet.

It's short-ish, but has a fair amount of replayability. There's a higher level difficulty setting, and you can unlock everyone's least favorite Drow Ranger to play as.
