Dark Alliance... any good?

It's pretty fun, though as mentioned, it's an action game, though with RPG stats (mostly 3e). More action orientated than Diablo, more RPG-ish than Gauntlet.

It's short-ish, but has a fair amount of replayability. There's a higher level difficulty setting, and you can unlock everyone's least favorite Drow Ranger to play as.
The similarities to 3E are fairly tenuous. There is a degree of customization allowed, but don't expect to be making 3E characters, because you can't. There's four characters to play, period. The abilities are given ranks and learned from a list for each character.

And I really don't understand how anything can be more action-oriented than Diablo (and Diablo II). Diablo was simply point/click over and over again. It had virtually no story. It's the very definition of a mindless action game.

Heya:

Wow, I can't believe I completely blanked on that jumping part. Yep, I didn't like that section at all either. Thank goodness they were generous enough to put save points right after the jumping stuff or I'd've been extremely annoyed.

I hope the sequel avoids that sort of thing. I don't mind tasks requiring dexterity (my Dex is about 8 or 9, probably), as long as the consequences for failure aren't instant death. Falling off a platform and having to reload is bad. Screwing up the "circle around the enemy and smack him once every few seconds" strategy and getting whacked for a bit isn't so bad. ;)

Take care,
Dreeble

For all of you fans of DA, before you run out and buy DA2 read up on it or rent it. Snowblind Studios (the developer of the first game), moved on to make Champions of Norrath (same type of game, just set in the Evequest world) and some one else ended up making DA2.
