Ahem...

Perhaps you mean "for all intents and purposes"?

Disclaimer: All grammatical fox paws are intentional and intended for the express purpose of edumicatin' of the ignored aunts.

From Word Pirates...

There are regular purposes (like the kind that propel us to buy milk and wash the car), and then there are the "intensive" purposes (that make us decide to tie helium-filled weather balloons to a lawn chair and have a sail).

Good news for d20 Modern fans of Dark Inheritance

Hi all. I've been meaning to reply to this since Scott pointed the thread out to me late last week. I've been concentrating solely on editing and other aspects of the business <Bad Chad! ;) >.

Mixed bag. On one hand, I love D20 Modern and intensely dislike Spycraft's "collectible rules" product design, so seeing anything go from D20M to SC feels like losing one to the "bad guys" when D20M could desperately use all the setting product it can get.

I have some good news for not only everyone who purchased the d20 Modern version of Dark Inheritance but d20 Modern fans as well. We are not dropping d20 Modern as a system. Although the books will only have the rules for the Spycraft engine, everything will be converted to d20 Modern and be available on our website. That includes all the great new rules for each legacy from the mini-Legacy books within each Allegiance book.

Also, I thought DI had a huge amount of unrealized potential in its first incarnation. OTOH, a second edition would allow the setting to realize some of that potential and iron out some of the (considerable) bugs, plus it seems that they are very comfortable with Spycraft as a rules engine. The new DI could be fantastic, and add value to my SC purchase. Also, the death of SFA means that my major bugaboo with SC is dead and gone.

On a totally incidental note, the cover for DI2e rocks -- a big improvement on the first edition cover and, I think, more likely to grab attention on the shelves.

We are very excited to "take another shot" at it. As is inevitable, there were things we looked back at and smacked our heads over. We've also taken the complaints we've received in reviews and emails on the fact that we didn't provide enough material on Post Rip Jerusalem and the Otherworld. So, we've added an entire chapter to deal with this initial oversight.

As for the cover, we love it too. Thanks!

On a semi-related note: does anyone know if Mythic Dreams is still planning to release Modern Spellcraft for D20M?

Absolutely. As soon as Dark Inheritance is off to layout I'll be putting my time to that tome. That book has been a .... challenge... and we all want to see it out the door. The material is solid and very innovative. I think you will be excited with the possibilities Modern Spellcraft opens up for players and GMs.

OK why have I never heard of this product before?!

Hmm, just read the reviews here on ENW & over on Mortality....

...and ordered a copy of the original edition from Overstock.com (after not being able to find a copy on eBay) for $20.89. Will no doubt pick up the new version when it is available as well.

Nothing quite like an impulse buy initiated by a message board! lol

Woohooo! :D I love hearing stuff like this!

Interesting. I held off buying Dark Inheritance only because I never got around to it. It's been on my buy list for a while. Now it's switching from D20 Modern to Spycraft? I'm surprised. I suppose they didn't sell very well under the D20 Modern rule set so they must see it as easier to convert to another popular system than to try to revive the setting where it is. Add to this the fact that Spycraft is coming out with a second edition and it complicates things even further.

Actually it sold very well as a d20 Modern setting. Our decision to move to the Spycraft Family was decided after taking into account much more than just sales figures. There are a lot of factors that affect a company's business decisions.

Frankly I'm a little bummed that D20 Modern is not more of a success than it is. It's probably selling well enough but not as well as it expected. That's just a guess. The Weapons Locker seemed like a complete waste when I looked through it at the local gaming shop. That's another one for the loss column. I don't have a lot of experience with either D20M or SC and I'm under the impression that each is better at different things but I'm getting a little tired of all these different rules systems. Variety is good but an excess of variety can create weaknesses in the market as publishers split up the small pool of customers available. Too many choices and no system will be viable.

Personally, I can't wait for D20 Future to come out.

I don't know how much of a success WotC feels d20 Modern has been. I know that the retailers I've talked to locally and at the GAMA Trade Show have been happy with it. It seems to have solid and consistent sales.

I always like to support the smaller game companies that are putting out good products.

My only regret was that I wasn't able to buy it directly from you so that you could keep all of the profit. *hint hint*
