With so much excitement surrounding the 4e release of Dark Sun I'm starting to think it's going to be a massive let down for most people, no matter how good it is.

There will also (according to the schedule) be some sort of Dark Sun preview material at DDXP (which is late January) so I'd imagine some preview information from those attending gets out at that point as well.

True - expectations are getting set high for many people, myself included. Of course, I certainly hope it not to be a let down, so we shall see!

Nope. But it will look like that because those people who like the previews will sit back at home and think "groooooovy" while those hating them will start threads titled, forex, "The Shattered Sun: thank you Wizbro, for destroying my world."

Huh. Looking forward to this ... but my Dark Sun experience is limited to reading a book or two. Let's see if this world grabs me.

It will be nice to see how WOTC does with a newish campaign setting, instead of just revisiting the main 3.5 worlds. I really hope it leads to them doing an entirely new world next year, or sometime.

I think 4E could really use a new world envisioned form the ruleset.

Why all the negativity? They really seem to be willing to adapt the rules to the setting this time. The few attempts at Dark Sun during 3E were crap mainly because they were trying to shoehorn things that simply did not fit. This time they went straight ahead and said they plan to have weak weapon materials, weapon breakage, and banning all divine classes. I think it is really looking good.

My guess is it will be the same as they're doing right now for PHB3. There will most likely be Excerpts closer to the release that will be free for all.
