Dark Sun Previews Start February

My guess is it will be the same as they're doing right now for PHB3. There will most likely be Excerpts closer to the release that will be free for all.
Likely, but it is boggling. It seems to me that previews are meant to tease folk who are on the edge and getting up excitement with those who had already bought-in, so to speak. Putting it behind a pay barrier reduces exposure.

Previews, to me, are like advertisements. IMO, make the previews freely available but when the setting is released the new articles appear behind the paywall. I don't think I'm the first person who complained about this though . . . ;)

*shrug*

Well, I heartily dislike the preview system as a whole, but on the other hand, those things are discussed enough here that I still get a good feel for the things being put out.

Like I have decided NOT to buy PHBIII as half of it has been released in some formalready and I did not like it much. Which is a shame as I ahve loved psionics from 1E. From what I have heard here, they are not for my game.

But Dark Sun is different. It is a campaign setting and I feel NO need to sslavishly follow hte designer's view of hte world, though I do trustthem enough to make the world workable, so I will follow along with most of it. I like Dark Sun a lot and I think it is a perfect world for 4E. But I do not see it as a world that can mix freely with other worlds, unlike PoL, FR and the big E which could probably play together, though I have never done that.

I am VERY glad they are cutting parts of the 4E kitchen sink out of Dark Sun, though. Every setting should not have everythign shoehorned into it. I think 4E FR and E both suffer from that.

Good to know! thanks.

There will also (according to the schedule) be some sort of Dark Sun preview material at DDXP (which is late January) so I'd imagine some preview information from those attending gets out at that point as well.

You are correct grasshopper.

We have a seminar on Saturday.

3 PM: Athas Unveiled: Dark Sun Returns!
Join Dark Sun lead designer Rich Baker as information on the upcoming Dark Sun Campaign Setting is revealed. The harsh world of Athas updates to 4th Edition this August, but D&D Experience is your first opportunity to get details about the setting’s update and the new character options presented in it. Presented by Rich Baker and Robert Schwalb.

We also have a Dark Sun preview adventure with characters provided running onsite the entire show.

Why why do you taunt me so, I cannot make it to DDXP, someone who's going please tweet constantly

Back in the days of print Dragon there were previews in the magazines and different previews online. There has always been a certain amount of previews designed for those who subscribe to the magazines. It's just that a lot of the "free previews" are now message board posts from the various developers and so aren't quite considered the same anymore.
