MIcroprose went belly up and was bought by Spectrum Holobyte soon after this title was released. I think the full rights are somewhere in limbo, but I do not know for certain.

But yes, it was an awesome game back in the early 1990's - still is, except for the graphics which I can no longer stomach, being spoiled by most current offerings. It was the only computer game with combat in it that I enjoyed the non-combat more than the combat! :)

My personal favorite parts was the character creation, and the opportunity to endlessly roam about various towns in Germany, getting into trouble and taking minor quests.

This game was amazing... I loved the character creation, used to spend hours just tinkering with it, trying to see where I could get with various choices.

The only big problem for we weren't the graphics, but the pretty bad bugs - every time I got involved in the more epic quests - closing a portal that was letting demons in, fighting the witches and the Templars, etc. - the game would end up crashing.

If someone made an updated version of this game, with modern graphics (I'd easily settle for Inifity Engine quality) and a stronger plot (without removing the option of just wandering aimlessly for fun and profit), it'd be an amazing game... Someone really needs to make another rpg set in historically accurate (with just enough myth and legend thrown in, like in Darklands) medieval Europe.

My favorite part was the character creation. Much more realistic than D&D IMO. I still mention it in other threads once in a while.

I've considered working on a conversion of the character creation system, but I don't know if any of my players would go for it.
