Darkness + Ranged Attacks

Further complicating the matter, 3.5 darkness is no longer magical, imprenetrable darkness. Thus you can have a lit area, a dark area, and then a lit area, and shoot from one lit area to another without difficulties.

Yea, that was the sticking point with my group. It doesn't expressly say that the squares in the area of effect grant concealment, and as far as I can tell normal (nonmagical) darkness doesn't cause a square to grant concealment either. I suspect they are talking about stuff like... bushes, maybe. Similar to soft cover.

Meh... maybe I'll just try to talk them into using 3.0 Darkness again.

Obscuring mist from above is a good example of something that grants concealment to an area. Tall grass is the most commonly seen in my game, though, especially when dealing with Small races.
