Daunton's Dead Shadow (DM:Ukingsken, Judge:????)

With nothing else to do at the moment, Grakk can't resist the urge to take a peek outside to see if any new developments have taken place with the bloodied half-orc subdued by his fellow adventuring companions. He takes a look. "Hmmm, I heard that there was a loud half-orc rogue-type fellow at the tavern not too long ago. I wonder if that's him?"

Cheers Magnus, Morvannon, says Kamotz when his Pack comes into view, They say we can commence the ritual to speak with Varonus, if we're ready, the shifter leans in conspiratorially, looking around as he does so, I'm not smart enough to bargain with a corpse, he'll have me paying to revive him if you two aren't there...

Magnus regarded the shifter for a moment, as he chewed on cracked thumbnail.

Hard enough...hard enough to...concentrate...with just my own company...but...

His gaze darted back and forth between Kamotz and Morvannon, What order...what questions...the right questions...

He traced the whirl of the grain in the table top with one blunt finger as the rusty cogs of his mind turned.

Wait! We should wait...better to have answers...before you ask questions...yes...

Heh, if I'm being overly obtuse I think we see what the note says before and maybe see if some well placed questions with the living might lend some additional information so we can ask the right questions. Unless you already have some good ones thought up of course.

If you want to proceed anyway Magnus will acquiesce and accompany you however, it's not as though the note can't wait for a bit.

Vixo entertains himself by playing with a stray dog near the temple's front steps. He makes sure to let the others know where he is.

*the mad one is wise. best to have knowledge to build questions on. you should know that*
*I thought you didn't know my mother.*
*who said anything about your mother*

"I think Magnus is right. The more we know going in, the better prepared we are to ask questions that are meaningful. And, well,"
here Morvannon looks a bit sheepish, "the dead guy's not going to get deader or anything while we restore this note."

Kamotz nods, and runs off to tell Lauto's ritual crew to stand down.

The rest of the party spend the afternoon and evening in their various pursuits, and Magnus feverishly studies the mending ritual. At last, well after sunset, he feels he has mastered it enough to attempt to perform it himself. He carefully lays out the fragments of the cultists' notes, together with the collected ashes, and incants the ritual. Minutes later, the job is done, and the notes lie back together on the table. The effect isn't perfect; there are occasional missing fragments of letters and jagged lines, but the message is clear.

1. Morensen, we know what you are. We are fellow travelers on that way. Our leader would like to meet you. We await your answer tomorrow at moonrise. Seek us at the north gate of Donnervale House.

2. Morensen, we waited for you, but you did not come. We have much to teach you. Our glorious leader insists on meeting you. Come to the north gate of Donnervale House.

3. Morensen. We WILL meet you. Come to the House at moonrise, or face the consequences.

4. Morensen. Last warning. Independents will not be tolerated. Donnervale House. North Gate. Moonrise.

[sblock=Streetwise DC 10]The Donnervales are a family of some prominence in Daunton. Not one of the Founding Families, but wealthy and well-connected. They have several estates, but the one known as Donnervale House, the ancestral home, is a sprawling mansion on lavish grounds on the east side of the city, north of the river.

[sblock=OOC]Well, I would beat that by rolling a 1, so.... ;)[/sblock]

"What is it with the rich people in this city?" mutters Morvannon. He relays to the others what he knows of the Donnervales, adding, "To be fair, we don't know if this is actually from one of them, or from someone using their name to intimidate. I wonder if our dead friend knows."

Grakk comes into the room as the warlock speaks. "I am back. I was distracted. Well done Morvannon. Yes...let us hear from the dead summoner."

We're putting that off Grakk, I had the ritual team stand down. Magnus seems to have given us a good lead without such a costly investment. responds Kamotz.

In my experience Morvannon, rich people are just poor people with the ability to do what they want. the shifter doesn't seem happy about his little world truth.
