Well, this is as obvious as it gets. Of course it is not.

The big question is not, whether an AoO is an action (in the game term sense), but rather, whether the daze condition speaks of actions in the game term sense or in a more general sense (as outlined and explained above).

That, unfortunately, is not to be derived from the rules without some guesswork.

The threatened area approach isn't bad either, tho.

Hence, the Confusion spell would also prevent AoOs because you do not yet know if you can perform a melee attack on your next turn.

I think it says so, actually... might be in the FAQ, but I'm quite sure to have read about Confusion and AoO somewhere. :)
