D&D General DDB/WOTC Price Increases

the new one costs $40, if you do not believe that this is the new baseline for books going forward I don’t know what to tell you

Which "new ones"? I see two books that are more than $30 - Planescape and the new Ravenloft book. The Ravenloft book seems quite beefy with a lot of content from what I've seen.

Why do you think development costs can't be impacted by inflation?

The old physical + digital would have been book price + 10 for DDB. It is now + $15. That is a big increase.

Personally, it makes a difference since I am not likely to use a lot of 5.5 content.

I own everything on DDB and now I do not think I will keep it up any longer.

Hasbro has been raising prices and lowering quality across the board so I may also just be getting to the point where I am getting pushed too far.
just out of curiosity - where would you go? Just stick with the books you already have? Move to A5e or Tales of the Valiant? Go further afield to Pathfinder 2e? (If so, there's a humble bundle right now where you could basically boostrap your collection for $20 or something. Or $40-ish if you want the whole bundle)

new one, singular. We are talking about the Ravenloft book. I expect the $40 to also be the price for new releases going forward (rather than the $30 of the last however many years)

they can, but 1) 33% at once, 2) with increased sales those cost are essentially flat for a digital release, so the price drops off fast if sales increase.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with development cost, just like the $30 were not about development cost but about being x% of the print book

For me, DDB is easily the best value for money in my entertainment budget. Like, exponentially. But I run a lot of games, share my books with a lot of players, and use it exclusively, including Maps for all my "away" games. So it's value for me is probably much higher than for most folks. But 6 bucks a month and all my books around 50% off is tough to beat. I'm very much at one end of the spectrum.

But you don't wanna know what I spend on miniatures and terrain. Especially if you're my spouse...

I have enough 5e content to last forever. If they remove 5.0 from DDB, then I’d switch my primary system to A5E or Tales. I just would not touch PF2e and it’s crunch.

I could also happily go back to 2e.

Otherwise, I’d move to C&C or Cypher.

My groups would use whatever system I suggested.

@Alenda would kill me if she knew how much I spent on TYRPGs via KS, backerkit, and DDB.

Pretty lucky. I'm currently running ToV and Cosmere and the Cosmere folks don't really have interest in any other system.
I backed Cosmere but never see myself running or playing it. I like the novels but fail to see the appeal in adventuring in the setting.

Horses for courses as the brits say. But my players are uber-Cosmere fans. They listen to podcasts about it and debate it and take quizzes to know what order they align to. So sanctioned fan-fiction, as it were, is irresistible to them.
