DDI: Does it support the non-transgendered adventurer?

Well D&D Insider will be an internet application, and as we all know Girlz don't exist on teh Intarweb

I'm hoping they don't force you to choose only ugly faces for lower charisma characters. You can RP an attractive character who is obnoxious and has no social skills, or vice versa. I'm thinking it's more just the way the artwork looks rather than a design decision. Or they wanted a really manly looking woman.

If the character creator has breast slider controls then perhaps you can minimize the boobs on female dragonborn. I'll never know - I have a Mac. :p

Well, it is a serious question as to whether or not users will be able to select body type and breast size for their character images. As "giggly" as this question might be, mature users might actually want to pursue some degree of control over this visual aspect of their character.

He's right.

Man with boobs and no crotch. Transgendered.

But, whatever, I don't think it's that big of a deal. Funny, more like :)

It's a Man ? I thought it was a were-cow ! oh, wait, sacred were-cows were slaughtered on the altar of 4e. It can only be a man then. Or a fat dwarf.

Wow, those faces are fugly.

WotC should just license the character builder from Pirates of the Burning Sea, and contract their artists to add heavier weps and armor (and the new races).

The ugly characters are intentional. They will have add-ons you can purchase for an additional fee. The low-end one will offer face-covering helms (like in the first screenshot). A more expensive option will offer decent looking PCs. Top will be a version that will allow you to use digitized versions of real models and actors so your PCs can be beautiful.

I'm not sure how useful this "character visualizer" is going to be anyway. Particularly if the characters all look this bad.

I'd much rather have them focus on providing an easy to use, bug-free character generator that gets all the stats right and can print out a really good-looking and easy to read character sheet. Maybe give it options to print out spell lists, or reference pages that describe the characters powers. Basically make it what Etools was always meant to be.

For a character portrait, I can always find some clipart or a photo, or even just "visualize" my character in my imagination.

And to be honest, a lot of gamers that I've gamed with just pick an actor or actress to be "cast" as their character, like the game was a movie or TV show.

Why mess with a character visualizer when you can just say, "My Paladin is played by Christian Bale."

This seems to be a trend with many 3D fantasy games. They seem to think people want to escape into a world of gym teachers and middle managers. I suspect it's half that they are using low end face software, and half that they are bored with typical fantasy beautiful people.

Or perhaps this is just them indicating that charisma will still be a dump stat in 4e.

I think the idea is the Character Visualizer will then export your PC to become your digital miniature on the Game Table.

So if you want Christian Bale to play your Paladin on the Game Table, you will have to buy the most expensive add-on I described above. :p
