DDM Line Axed

I suspect that the price of oil climbing through the roof again is a major factor in the decision to stop producing the pre-painted plastic minis. Plastic is petrolium based so when oil prices rise so does plastic.

They could have continued, but they would likely have had to jack the price way up and cut the number of minis per booster again as well. We all know that didn't go over well with the customer base the last couple of times.

It also could be related to why some of the books dropped off the schedule. If the same company in China was producing both the books and the minis then the details of the changing deal might have soured things enough to force that decision. No idea if the books being dropped is tied to the decision to stop the minis or not, just one possibility.

I've got enough of the plastics to run just about anything I want. The last set I really invested in was War of the Dragon Queen and shortly thereafter the line quality started tanking. I've picked up one or two along the line, but mostly the newer miniatures just didn't enthrall me - and the cost has been far more than I'm willing to pay for a random set.

I'm a bit surprised the line lingered on as long as it did after they killed the tournament side of the game.

I still wish we'd gotten a Gargantuan green dragon though before the line went belly up.

M'eh. Not going to get into it but if you're selling miniatures to role players as opposed to mini players, eventually even the most die hard collector will have enough.
Oh really? :) *Looks at his mini collection, dating back to the seventies... and eighties... and nineties... and the oughts... and the teens....*

Then again, I paint my own*, and do play Warhammer as well, but most are RPG figures. Some of us know that the day you finish painting that last figure is the day that you die....

The Auld Grump

*I enjoy painting them, and it is not unknown for me to buy a miniature because it looks like fun to paint, then look for some reason to use it.

It sucks to see it go, but I haven't been able to collect minis as much as I would like to since I got married. I did managed to get up to couple hundred though.

I'm very sad to see DDM go. I loved seeing cool minis with all the hard work (painting) done for me. I loved seeing random dragons, elementals, goblins, etc.

I've purchased exactly 3 DDM products; the Gigantic Black Dragon, the Gigantic Blue Dragon, and the Colossal Red Dragon. Why only 3 purchases despite obviously liking the line of products: Random Packs. I will not purchase random items hoping to get the minis I want.

Here was what I secretly wished for: Essential X - Y Number of X minis
For example, Essential Elementals - 5 different Elemental minis.

Heck, I would have even shelled out cash for random minis if they were simply presented in theme packs (10 Random Goblins, 10 Random Elementals, 10 Elves, 10 Dwarves, 10 Abberations, etc). As a DM, I care that the goblin looks like a goblin, not that it has the exact color scheme and weapon I pictured.

WotC, because of their slavish devotion to producing DDM as a Magic the Gathering style game lost a chance to capture my money.

I somewhat find this dubious - why not just buy singles then?

I somewhat find this dubious - why not just buy singles then?

There are several reasons I've not purchased singles on-line
1. I had access to a huge collection at one point and had no need to purchase singles at that time.
2. Since that time, we've been playing Mage and I've had no need for them.
3. I've been holding out hope for Legendary Encounters - Sadly this seems like a lost cause at this point. I purchased several from their first wave released many moons ago

But heck, it's the internet. I'm probably lying through my teeth.
