DDM Preview 6 Cyclops

The Desert of desolation Preview 6 is up here . It shows a cyclops, which is interesting for a few reasons:
1) It's in the 4E MM, which is a first for the cyclops
2) It has a new look, so it is more than a hill giant with one eye (looks more like a Greek mythology Titan, an improvement in my book)
3) It is somehow tied to fey and formorians.

Seriously, he looks like he has two eyes. What up wit dat?
Not only do I not see two eyes on him, the shading on his card actually makes me think of the old mono-eye mecha from the Gundam series -- in this case, the Zaku. So yeah, not seeing that.

Blindsight does seem... off, though.

Another vote for blindsight on a cyclops being odd.

This is a new tiny tidbit I think.
For example, the Capricious Copper Dragon became Chaotic Neutral in the minis game, partly to illustrate the 4th edition concept that not all metallic dragons uphold what is right and good.

And I don't play the mini game, does the Mercenary General give us any insight into the new Warlord class, or are there already tons of guys like that already and he is more like a Marshall out of the Mini-Handbook?

He has only one eye, but it is a very potent eye, with near divine perception. Maybe.

Yep, just one eye.

Those little things to either side of the painted eye really do look like eyes, though.

They only have one eye, but it's a very good eye. ;)

Actually I'm not sure, is there some mythological precedent for cyclops having supernatural perception of some sort? I can't think of one off the top of my head, but it seems like part of the cyclops theme for some reason.

Also, about the face, take a look at the wikipedia entry for the cyclops, the first picture there seems to have two small non-functional "eyes" around its central one, it could be fashioned after that.

THAT'S why it's bothering me -- the eye should be in the center of the forehead, not under the brows like eyes are supposed to be. Ah well, it's a bit late for complaining to do any good here, I guess I'll just have to see how it looks in person.

Fun fact: elephant skulls are often mistaken for cyclops skulls
Fun fact 2: there are developmental abnormalities in humans that can cause two eyes to fuse into one in the center of the brow. There are a few babies preserved in alcohol somewhere that had it.

Blindsight?

In the Odyssey (first mention of a cyclops I'm aware of - other than, maybe, other Greek myths), Odysseus escapes from the cyclops by BLINDING it!!! Perhaps WotC needs to do a little more research in the future?
