DDN needs more gods!

All we really saw was lolth, buhanmut, timat and vecna, as combat worthy gods
Also Torog.

According to The Plane Above, Gruumsh is too strong for PCs to take on. Which implies that the same is true of Bane.

Of the evil gods, that leaves Asmodeus, Tharizdun and Zehir. I would at least like to see Zehir statted up - what with the high level Yuan-Ti that we already have, this could work OK as a campaign climax.

i forgot Torog lol

I can't see how the orc god can't be killed but the dragons we can fight

Maybe the dragon gods are weaker because each is just one half of Io! If we apply the XP rules to this in a literal fashion, that suggests that Io was around 40th level (+4 levels doubles XP, and the dragon gods are 35th and 36th).

And speaking historically, Tiamat and Bahamut have been statted up as monsters for most of the game's history, whereas Gruumsh never has been.

Still, I take your point.

I don't really see the point of the thread. I'm not intending to be thread-crappy or anything. But I really don't.

You have the width and breadth of the real world pantheons, Greyhawk's gods, the near infinity managerie of Forgotten Realms gods, immortals, primordials, devil princes and demon lords, probably other games and setting pantheons I'm not thinking of...not to mention whatever home-brewed pantheons/deities you can come up with, yourself.

If you want your party to fight Grummsh...then fight Grummsh. Go to Deities and Demigods (Legends and Lore, whatever) and pull the stats. Lower them if you feel you need to. The back of the 1e Unearthed Arcana has a complete pantheon of demi-human (and Orc) gods. Use some of them if the "big names" are "too tough."

The game is about imagination...you think D&D needs to give you MORE gods to fit your vision of what a "killable deity" ought to look like?

I do not understand.

To borrow from Nike (who is also a goddess you could probably kill and take her stuff), "Just do it!"

The way i see it though is if you don't have access to the old stuff or DDI, or the time to make it.

What i think we need to see in DDN is more god templates for us to do battle with.

What i think we need to see in DDN is more god templates for us to explore, puzzle out, and roleplay with.

Deities & DemiGods is a great book, but it's mostly setting material examples like spells and magic items are. I like it because its actual myths and legends and a great resource for any games less than completely personal fantasies. However it's also sold rather poorly every incarnation. Templates with examples would probably be cheaper all around. But they definitely need to start defining these guys as more than simply encountered combats.

I....I really have no idea what you're saying as an argument/retort.

As best as I can suss out, so, because you don't have the time to do any of those things...D&D is responsible for providing them to you?

I would wager the guess that if you don't have "access to 'old stuff' [no, not insulting at all] or DDI [which it seems those who are not old would have the time for], or time to make it" then, it sounds to me like you have no time to play D&D. Clear your calendar...and have a good time when you have the time.

Imagine there's no heaven? I wonder if I can.

Meh.

Gods and demons are a staple to pulp fantasy. If anything, I'd like to see more gods and influence of such things.

Conan, a fighter/thief barbarian who worships Crom. He never really prays, because he has no tongue for it, but Crom is certainly a huge influence in his outlook on the world.

I'd like see religion, cults and gods play more of a role in the non-Cleric classes.
