Deadlands d20 In-Character (Turn 1)

Jackson

Felix listen patiently through the conversation before adding:

Well Pastor, yer word is good fer this Tennessee boy. It's just I'm not that keen on messin' 'bout with the dead, or the folks who like messin' 'bout with the dead fer that matter. When I was ten, I saw a whole platoon of Confederate soldiers get mauled and eaten by a group o' zombees. Worst 'ting I ever done saw. Problem wit' the dead nowadays is they don't like rest'in where they was planted. Not sayin' that's happening o' course, but as Granny Poe always used to say, "When the dead ain't in their graves, they's probably waitin' for ya in the dark."

Jackson, with a flick of his wrist, spins the King of Spades up into the air and catches it deftly in his other hand. As quickly as the cards appeared, they now disappear.

I guess it's settled then. If you folks is friends o' the Pastor, I guess you is all worthy folks. So who shall we endeavor to make the acquaintance of? The Sheriff or the Deputy?

Running Wolf stares at Dustin for a moment, and then nods approvingly. She then looks to the others. "Boy With Curls is right. Instead of speaking to the warrior, we should speak to the chief first."

Running Wolf will be sure to grab her bow before everyone leaves. She will walk proudly, despite being somewhat of a rarity and a curiosity in the town (I would think - am I wrong?). At times, she will look to the west, where Howls At Nothing hunts. She would rather be out there with him than in a town that smells of dirty feet.

OK so I am assuming that you are all heading to the Sheriff's office together…

Pastor O'Donnell walks you all to the front door, while Alice cleans up. Before opening the door, O'Donnell shakes each of your hands "Well I can't tell you all how much this here means to me. I knew I could count on ya all, even though I hated to ask. Be careful and if you need anything don't be afraid to ask. The Rising Star Saloon has pretty clean and good rooms iffin you want to stay, but you are more then welcome to stay here at my house. I can have extra rooms set up fer ya if ya want, just let me know. I don't sleep much as I did when I was young so don't be a worried about waking me late. I also got a small stable out back where I keep my horse Dusty. He's worthless but faithful as a dog and I an't got the heart to let him go. The Red Tree Stables is back behind General Feed and Goods store over on 1st Ave. They got some pretty good horse iffin you need one. Just tell them I sent ya and the Stableman there, John Nortend, will set ya up with one and get ya a discount. If you need it I can front ya the money to get one but pastorin' an't a rich man's gig, so I can't afford everything ya might be a needin' or a wantin'. The Sheriff's office is just on the west end of 1st Ave, along with the Jail. Ya will see the sign no problem. Good luck and God bless ya all."

With that O'Donnell opens the front door, pecks out and opens it all the way for ya to past. It is just turning to early evening, but you still have about 3 or 4 hours of day light left (ah summer in Montana, where it don't get dark until 9pm). People are still moving around, going about their business. Where ya all heading next?

"Alrighty then, off ta see the chief," Dustin says as he turns for the door purposefully, the hint of a smile at the corner of his lips. At the door, he turns back, giving the Pastor an easy smile. "Don't you worry yourself, sir. I'll make sure everything's right as rain."

As he steps outside, he dons his hat, ensures that it fits snugly. He begins the trek down 1st avenue, striding towards the Sherrif's office.

OOC: Dustin's heading for the Sherrif's office.

"Well friends, when we get's there, who all is gonna do the parleying? " says Felix in a serious voice.

He looks down the street, taking in the buildings of the town. His spurs jingle as he strides forward on Dustin's right side.

OOC: Felix will attempt to use his Spot Skill as they move to actively search for suspicious looking folks who seem to take an interest in the group's passage.

Re: Jackson

Running Wolf walks besides the men towards the sheriff's office.

"I do not think I should do the talking, Little Fox. I feel that this town has become a haven for manitou's, and if that is true - then I would say hard words to this man. Is he not the protector of these people?" Running Wolf shakes her head, and continues towards the Sheriff's office.

Dustin nods, still staring down the street. "Ah'll talk to 'im. Ah'll solve this and we'll all be home 'fore nightfall, you'll see."

The big man continues his determined stroll down the road, making sure he cuts an impressive figure against his two companions. This is gonna come down to a lot a 'timidatin'. It always does.

The three of you head back into town and over to 1st Ave. It is dry and fairly hot, even with a light breeze that kicks up some dust along the road.

Felix looks around, watching the locals but no one seems to pay your group and special mind. (while you do not have Spot it can be used untrained... generally I will NOT tell you want you rolled) While there are a quit a few people out and about they all seem to be going about personal business, not talking to one another much. Also, you don't see any kids out playing in the streets, and more then a few passersby seem to be a bit nervous, hurrying this a way and that.

It is not to hard to find the Sheriff's office at the end of 1st Ave, a good sized one-story brick building with Billings Sheriff, Donald Patrick. On the front porch, a man dressed in work cloths and wearing a deputy badge sits in a rocking chair and watches you approach. He is a fairly large man, wearing a revolver in a left handed holster.

"Evening folk, what can I do ya for?"

Running Wolf stays in the back, and lets like deal with like. She peers at the deputy, however - her eyes and mouth set in disapproval.

[Modification made, as I, the player, failed my own spot roll!]

Dustin comes to a stop before him, sizing the man up. If it comes to blows, ah hope I kin take 'im, he thinks, 'Specially 'fore he goes fer that gun.

However, he makes a big show of being nonchalant and unconcerned, assuming a relaxed body posture and hooking his thumbs in his pockets.

"Now that depends, sir, on whether or not you can point in the Sherrif's direction. We got business with 'im."
