Deadlands D20 Resources

that is truely appreciated :)

I absolutely love the deadlands universe, but for some reason , I cannot get my players to play it , unless it's the d20 version, so I kinda ran wild with it.

the d20 system wasn't the problem, it was the fact that the people who worked on it, didn't quite understand the distinction for feats and prestige classes.

Hense why I changed the tempest from a prestige class (which doesn't make an ioda of sense) to a starting feat (which should be balenced seeing as the spell roll will be based on charisma).

Another key problem is the books seem setup for 1-10, but have serious problems afterwards having issues with both cr encounters and armor class. I had to houserule it with a similar mechanic as in modern d20 to keep it playable after that point.

He also forgot to do all them thar vehicles in smith and robards and convert them over, despite of having a descent mechanic for vehicles driving.

But the part that killed the books was the fact that it almost went for a clinical style for the books that were strictly d20. Part of the fun of the books of deadlands is the writing.

If he hadn't been so gung ho about getting into the market, he could have done real well.

However, kinda prefer his rules for automatic weapons in both deadlands and wierd wars to the stuff in modern d20.

plus the monster books are great for using with any of the gaming.

I was thinking that as well. Are we possibly the only ones playing D20 version of Deadlands? :uhoh:

There might be a few others, but the vast majority prefers either the classic or the Savage Worlds version for good reason.

It's rather telling, that there is only a single post in the official Deadlands d20 rules forum... and that one's even a fun post. :p

Hiya,

I'm going to be going down this path as well. My group is leaning towards a D20 Victorian/Deadlands type game, so I've been gobbling up every resource I can find to see what I come up with. My plan is to start in 1875 and advance the campaign a year every couple of adventures. The resources I'm using:
* Masque of the Red Death
* Broncosaurus Rex
* Cthulhu d20 and Cthulhu by Gaslight
* Deadlands d20
* Space: 1889
* Forgotten Futures
* D20 Past
* Sidewinder: Recoiled

We'll be using the D20 Modern system as the base.

I've been having fun converting Deadlands to the D20 Modern system using E-tools. I've created two advanced classes so far (Huckster and Blessed). I also converted all the weapons and spells. Next going to do feats and monsters then I'll move on to the next book.

D20 Past already covered Shaman and Mad Scientist, which I will be using in place of the Deadlands rules (the Deadlands invention rules are all over the map).

My goal is to 1) have one sourcebook for all of the add-on material for D20 Modern, and 2) have it all in e-tools so I can easily convert any of the adventures for the above games into the generic setting.

I figure Sidewinder: Recoiled will require the least converting (if at all, book is on order). Masque of the Red Death is suprisingly update, since it was made for D&D 3.5. Any of the above games would be great resources for a "weird" 1800s. And there's the Forgotten Futures site itself, which is a treasure trove of material: http://www.forgottenfutures.com/game/index.htm

Great stuff!
