D&D 5E Dealing with a Heavily Armored Paladin?

I ran into a somewhat similar problem in my star wars campaign where the jedi were super powerful. I haven't read all 9 pages of the thread but the idea of rust monster is poor. Also if you start running anti paladin monsters then the rest of party may suffer as well
This game isn't about the dm vs the players. Its about having fun with buddies. If your buddy had a nice coat/suit etc and it gave them an advantage in a social setting would you ruin it for them. Hopefully not
If you had to remove the platemail I would say a shipwreck where everyone loses stuff

I would argue it is not a monty haul campaign, at level 9 she has one magic item - bracers of defense which is also the best magic item owned by the party of 4 and which the DM did not expect her to take...
She is hands down the hardest character to hit in the party, and was be even without the bracers.
DMs do need to be very careful when handing out items. Making a PC 'just better' with a well-chose item can save or wreck a campaign - and /which/ PC gets the item is every bit as critical as which item you place.

Agreed with experience when the 20 Dex Ranger got the Gloves of Missile Snaring that I hoped they would give to the Sorceress whom had literally been riddled with every ranged weapon in the game since level 1.

I think in part the solution is less loot, more rewards. If a person of high power gifted a character with an item, they might take offense if that character just gives it to someone else in the party.

It also allows the DM to less than subtly hint you want a certain player to have the item.

Yep. Once, I had a group where everyone had a magic item except the Fighter. Before becoming an adventurer, the Fighter had been badly burned and scarred by dragon-fire. As a result, he always wore a mask to hide his disfigured face, and he lost control whenever he saw an enemy using fire-magic, ignoring all other threats until the fire-user was dead. Thinking he could use it, I added a ring of fire resistance to a treasure hoard for him, since he had no magic items.

The Bard took it.
