Dealing with defeated vampires

Well, I've decided to (retroactively) allow stuff to fall out of the dissipating vampires as opposed to just leaving it in their coffins for the PCs to find. They're going to "flare up" and flash to ash, and any magical or metallic objects will survive, but any non-magical cloth or soft objects will appear badly burned and scorched. Should make for a cool visual.

Thanks for the help!

What if the players had trapped the gaseous vampires (*excuse me!*) inside the cracks and sealed them within, what would you say happened to the vampires' gear in that case?

That would just be nasty. I would say it gets destroyed upon materializing. Hope that the destruction doesn't lead to big explosions... of course, as a reward it could be the way that the players then get to the coffins (and the goodies inside) as they literally fall into the chamber from above.
