Death Effects--ideas anyone?

I just finished reading the first Dragonlance novel and loved how the Draconians each had a magical ability when they died.

Some turned to stone, others a puddle of acid, some even exploded.

This gave me a nice idea for adding these effects to new or existing monsters. Doing so would add a strategic element the PC's would have to contend with.

Has anyone seen any rules, spells, etc on these or other different types of death effects?

Thanks

death effect is already a term in D&D...I misunderstood this thread at first because of that.

Death throes would be more apt a term.

I think many outsiders, dragons, and powerfully magical creatures could benefit from some death throes.

Death Throes--any ideas?

You are right! Death Throes is better...

1) I could imagine a Balor laughing maniacally as he releases a torrent of negative energy upon dying...

"I'll see you in Hell": 10ft radius burst/HD, 10d6dmg 1/2 divine.

2) For an Elder Dragon who reaches 25% HP:

"Now you pissed him off": May Breathe as a free action every round but only for 1/2 dmg. May not breathe more than once a round.

The turning to stone idea in Dragonlance would probably be the biggest shock to a PC. Having their sword yanked from their hand would be brutal in combat. I could see the look on my PC's faces.
