DEATH OF A DEMON LORD now available in softcover!

Just to confirm, this has new crunch in it, right? If so, is it just NPCs, or other new material?

Also, will copies be available to buy at Gen Con, or is Lulu our only option to acquire a copy?

I can answer the crunch question.

There is plenty of new crunch besides the stats for the NPCs. There are a number of new magic items, a new monster (a daemon), one demon lord, one archdevil, a whole abyssal plane, and a couple of artifacts to boot.

I love Blackdirge, (not in that way sicko :p ) but $19.99 for 154 pages? Don't you think that is a little high? Even a Terry Goodkind novel close to 1,000 pages is under $8.

Yeah, and that Goodkind novel would be a mass-market paperback, printed in the thousands. This book is more of a specialty or boutique item. Big difference in cost to print, so a big difference in price.

Was the daemon a late addition? It wasn't in the files I received.

Not that your stats needed any editing. When it came to game material stuff, I felt pretty unnecessary!

Oh, and on the price thing: Print on Demand, like Lulu, is not cheap-- as opposed to the aforementioned mass-market paperback. The price is comparable to a gamebook of that size, as opposed to straight fiction, as befits a product with so much crunch.

Hey, you did read a little further down where I also explain this too, didn't you?

Anyway, Dirge has chimed in enough for me to be happy about the purchase. I would like to get a feel for how many of these they are going to print though.

How many in the series?

Check the first post.

This takes the form of a trilogy of novels: Death of a Demon Lord, The Tides of Chaos, and Ascension. The first novel, Death of a Demon Lord, is now available - with the two sequels at roughly 3-month intervals.

I used to manage a Barnes & Noble.
Ah, the fraternity of bookstore employees: underpaid and overeducated. I used to belong to that group myself. :cool:

Things to do when I get a job:
1. Become a Community Supporter;
2. Buy these books;
3. Pay bills to avoid having utilities cut off.

I read your whole post. I basically reiterated what you said since you seemed to be answering your own question. You were comparing this EN Publishing effort with a Goodkind novel. Regardless of your explanation of being willing to buy it to support EN World, you still seemed to be making the comparison in price for a reason. EN Publishing will never be able to compete price-wise with a mass-market paperback, and regardless of whether this is a fundraising effort or not, this book would likely still be priced the way it is now. So, basically, I'm not sure what you were getting at with the comparison. It doesn't seem especially pricey to me, given the circumstances. I don't think the price was purposely inflated to raise funds more quickly.

Oh man, tell me about it. It became much worse once I got into management. Any job that expects you to work 60-80 hours a week for 27k a year (salary, no overtime) should just start buying slaves and cut out the middle man. :D

Although, I did have a lot of fun at the bookstore. Getting to meet authors, and just talking about books with customers almost made the crazy hours worth it. Almost.

Basically, yeah - it's POD, which means it costs us a set amount to print each one. No economies of scale at all.

We're negotiating with a couple of publishers about book trade print runs, but nothign definte yet.

Not in the novel version - there are some stats at the back, but this one's a novel. We'll be doing the illustrated gamebook version with all the stats later, but it'll be pricey. Well, more pricey.
