I am looking at the Deathtrap from Terror in Freeport and trying to judge whether its sensible to run as-is. Do any Freeport players or DMs have advice or stories about this encounter? Can powerful (high-point buy) characters of level 2 make it through this thing, or does it really require magic?

That trap is ridiculous. My players were 2nd level, iirc, and I knew that at least two would die.

So- I replaced it. :)

I had a lowering ceiling- that stopped 1.5 feet off the ground, and then small hatches release snakes into the chamber.

It was a tough fight, but at least it was not tpk-possibility.

It also went with the motif of the villians better then the original trap.
