[Dec] What are you reading?

I'm now about half-way through "Are We Having Fun Yet? American Indian fantasy stories" by William Sanders. And I have to say these are great. Sanders has a wicked sense of humour. For instance, the opening story - which was nominated for multiple awards (and won one I haven't heard of, the Sideways Award for best alternate history story) - is, well, a what-if William Shakespeare had accidentally ended up in the New World among the Cherokee - and tries to put on a production of Hamlet.

Finished Lord of the Clans. A quick read, and pretty fun. Situations and problems get resolved pretty quickly, though there are a few twists and turns along the way.

Was given Adrian Tomine's Summer Blonde, but will probably start on Shinju soon since it's due at the library. :D

I'm on a Neil Gaiman kick right now. I recommend "Neverwhere" for those who are into the genre (contemporary fantasy - not wizards n' dragons type stuff). I'm currently slogging through "American Gods." It's well-written, but gracious is it long-winded. I keep waiting for him to get around to telling the story...

I just now started "Ashes of Victory," the ninth of David Weber's "Honor Harrington" series. Over the past month, I've been catching up on the series, having read "Flag In Exile," "Honor Among Enemies," "In Enemy Hands," and "Echoes of Honor." I hope to finish AoV and start on the 10th, and latest, book, "War of Honor." Just a fantastic space opera series.

After hearing many good things about them, I just started reading "On Basilisk Station", the first of the Honor Harrington novels. I'm only 3 chapters in, but I'm already looking forward to the rest of the series.

Hmm, I have to locate a copy of Godstalk by P.C. Hodgell. I no longer have a copy of it. There is a sequel to that one? If so, that's cool, because I liked Godstalk quite a bit.

I finished reading the first two Dragonscrown books by Michael Stackpole. Last night I completed The King Betrayed by Deborah Chester. My next novel is light reading (a WH40k book). In-between my fantasy reading I have been sifting through my history book collection. At this time I am reading The Cultural Atlas of the Vikings and The Encyclopedia of Mythology.

Just finished SILMARILLION, after about nine months of plugging at it two pages a night. What an amazing and unique piece of fantasy, but certainly not for everyone's taste.

Now, I've started both UNFINISHED TALES and GARDENS OF THE MOON. I'm about ten pages into each. We'll see which one pulls ahead in the coming months... two pages at a time per day. (I love being married and being a father, but MAN does it cut into your reading time! :) )

As many others of the "initiated" have, I just finished Wolves of the Calla, [ADVERTISEMENT]the recently released fifth installment of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series, an immersive and addictive world(s) filled with gunslingers, magicians, drug addicts, robots, vampires and interdimensional portals spanning all the universes King has created. It's got tie-in's to (and characters from) the The Eyes of the Dragon, The Stand, Salem's Lot and probably a bunch of others.

Go. Buy. Read. Then make me up a PbP campaign for it... ;)
