December '08: What Are You Reading?

I just finished Dean Koontz's The Good Guy last night. Now I'm all out of reading material. Time to go hit the library, or reread one of my Jack Vance novels.

Unfortunately, just school related stuff, I think. Parts of various famous (or at least important) philosophers, and such.

Sadly, I am not sure that I recall the last time I read a whole book that was purely for my own enjoyment (or even betterment). Might have been as far back as Black God's Kiss last Christmas, I think...

Finished most of Holmes -- don't want to be 100% burnt out on him ;)

Read David Sedaris' Holidays on Ice -- so funny!

Now reading a new translation of The Tain.

Reading now:

Shadow in the Desert: Ancient Persia at War (Osprey Press) - my bedtime reading
Makers of Rome by Plutarch - my waiting room reading
Marvel Masterworks 14: Captain America (TOS #59-81) - my "reading to my son at bedtime" reading

I just picked up The Mysterious Benedict Society, to see if it might make good kids' bedtime reading after we're done with Cap.

I finished the Diamond Age audiobook and am now listening to Wicked. I'll be picking up a Stephen Baxter sci fi short story collection at the public library this weekend (Vacuum Diagrams I think it's called).

Currently I am reading a short story collection -- Extraordinary Engines. It is a steampunk collection, and like most groupings of short stories, is a real mixed bag.
