[December] What are you reading?

I agree with you, billd91, on Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell. I put it down a month or two ago after reading a couple of chapters because it bored me to tears. I just don't understand why people like it. I kept falling asleep!

I finished up Brother Odd quickly; I get to a point in Koontz' books where I simply have to clear the schedule, sit down, and devour the rest of the book in one sitting. I thought it was very well done, as all the Odd books have been. I can't wait to see where he ends up next.

Right now, I'm reading Covenants: A Borderlands Novel by Lorna Freeman. So far, so good.

Just finished Return to Quag Keep by Andre Norton and Jean Rabe which was cool; I need to map that place out! Also finished Bill O'Reilly's Culture Warrior which was interesting; to stay in bounds that's all I'll say. :) Now reading the second book of Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy, Royal Assassin, enjoying the books alot. Next up, Secrets of Dripping Fang series by Dan Greenburg and Shadows over Baker Street which is Sherlock Holmes dealing with the Chtulhu mythos. My wife recomended them both; should be fun.

Who is Shadows over Baker Street written by? I am a big Holmes fan and this one slipped under by radar.

Elf Witch,

Shadows over Baker Street is a themed anthology. Many authors contributed stories, among them Neil Gaiman and Jim Lowder. IN fact, Gaiman's story, "A Study in Emerald" is available free from his site in pdf. You can find it here. It is, in my opinion, a brilliant story. Enjoy.

Thanks I ordered the book this morning, and I am looking forward to reading it.

I just finished up Sunshine by Robin McKinley. Neil Gaiman wrote one of the review blurbs on it and that's why I picked it up. Turned out to be a pretty good vampire novel and I really liked the universe she set up. Quick read and definitely entertaining. I'd recommend it.

Started up Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman last night. Liking it so far.

Just finished up a re-read The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood (amusing, light holiday reading, neh?).

Now casting about for a new book -- possibly something about late 18th century England (novel, history, funfacts, whathaveyou). :)

I'm having trouble getting through that one, too. I am enjoying it, but it's just not one of those books that I have to keep reading steadily until I finish. I keep getting distracted by other books.

Currently I'm reading the second Dresden Files book, and I'm listening to Terry Pratchett's Hogfather as an audio book.

You find it an amusing holiday read. :\ Or am I just being dense and missing your sarcasm?

When I read the book it made me angry and without bringing religion and politics onto the board lets just say it made me more dertermined to keep fighting for certain rights I happen to believe in.

If you like 18 century England and if you like mysteries try some of Anne Perry's. She really captures the feel of how strict society was back tehn and what it was like to be a cop and having to worry about social mores and worring about the titled Lord who was your boss.
