It sure is. Let me make a special shout-out (whatever that is) to Todd, because his cards are great. I'm not sure if everyone can read the pdf, but I can, and it's gorgeous.

In truth, after looking at all the entries, I now feel that there is a better set in me.

There are things I like about all of them and yet no one set fulfils me perfectly: perfectly symbolic, metaphorical, simple in design, complex in meaning, luscious to behold . . . each set has something that the others don't.

You sound like you're working toward a second try towards something that could be released by a PDF publisher ;) ;) I'd be willing to bet Russ or The Le would jump on that like a housecat on a ball of yarn...

This gets me wondering, I've seen a couple complaints on the other thread about not being able to read the PDF. Is that affcting the way people vote?

It was very difficult for me to vote. I think that Todd's deck is probably the one that I would actually use in a game; the cartoonish look will fit many games best. But while I know that "cartoonish" doesn't mean low quality, I thought the artistic value of some of other decks was higher. Still, it's a fun deck.

Derty Angel's has the biggest "Wow" factor, but I get the impression that they were already existing pieces of artwork that were assigned names of the cards. I think that the artwork should be driven by the card, though, and while these pieces are amazing, I don't think they are driven by the cards. (I feel the same way about Tarot cards that use paintings by old masters - it's better to have art specifically devoted to the card. Even if that art is of lower intrinsic quality).

In the end I thought that Sialia's best captured the qualities of being "perfectly symbolic, metaphorical, simple in design, complex in meaning, luscious to behold" which would make a good deck. But I was very, very close to voting for Todd's deck anyway.

All but the Gems card (which was made just for this) were existing pictures. I found out about this contest about 2 days before the deadline so i put together what i could with what i had. I think all the pictures follow the ideas of the deck very well if not literal description of the card, but the meaning behind the card. As Sialia said, i know i could do a better deck, but i'd have to have a lot more time to do it, That 1 new picture took about 4 or 5 hours. Besides, whats wrong with pre-existing art? It's a good way to showcase someones art to people who may have may have never had a change to see it otherwise. I think no one here has ever seen my art before except ElectricDragon, mainly because he's been seeing my art for about the last 20 years. If i see something with a new Remberant or Leonardo picture i've never seen before it hold as much interest or more than seeing a new hot off the canvas Royo or Boris.
I think when you find a Deck and you pull out a card, you should go "Wow!" because it is a minor articaft and the level of skill required to make it (by gods) would make for some mind blowing pictures, so when you pull void and you see the picture, you may not know what it is, but you say, uh-oh this don't look good can we pretend i didn't draw this one and do it again.

I think all the decks for the contest look great though, my compliments to everyone! The great thing about art is how one thing can be expressed so many ways. I'm glad there was a contest for this, we used to have tons of fun with these decks, had a 20th level Wizard get hit with the Void myself :) I really liked Sialia's Throne LOL, the one place you can always be King....untill your kid comes knocking on the door..."What ya doin? Hurry up!"

Wow, some people actually voted for my joke entry? Just goes to show what can be accomplished when you're really bored at work.

In the end I had to go with Todd just because his fool manages to be one of the most singularly amusing things I've ever seen. I can't get over that guy's expression.
