I wish I could use this idea. Unfortunately the Szathair (lizardmen variant) of my world are taken as slaves by the humans of the nearby kingdom. In fact, Maxima's father is a slaver - that's where her family's wealth comes from. the Szathair are very much different psychologically from standard lizard men. As adults they are loners, living alone or in mated pairs (short term). Young are raised in small groups by the females, and they leave as soon as they are semi-mature. At young adulthood they form small groups that remain until first mating, when they split into breeding pairs, and then eventually into singles. Females return to their birth place to lay their eggs and nurture the young.
In fact, they do not have any concept of ownership, and do not even give each other permanent names. For one to be raised by a human as a human would entail major changes in his psyche, which I don't see as possible. But I could see an escaped slave Szathair hiding in the swamps.
In fact, one of the later plots I have in mind is a szathair sorcerer throwback (part dragon) trying to rally his people to war against the humans. He's evil, but then so are the humans he's fighting, so it'll be interesting to see where the PCs go with it.
