Defining a decade with a song: 1980s

So does "19" by Paul Hardcastle... Besides one-hit wonders of disposable pop music was definately a feature of the 80s...
Actually, I'd say an argument could be made for "19" defining the 70s (or at least being defined BY them), if ya get what I mean. :\

It's about something that happened in the 70s, but it was very much a song of the 80s. I still think some British kid who was two young to remember anything about it making a song about the human tragedy of the Vietnam war shows an awful lot of cheek. It's a little like if I made a song about the Falkland Islands or something.

And made it a cheezy little dance number that took itself seriously.

Nothing says '80s like Breakfast Club.
Except maybe:

[singing]When you're all alone, pick up the phone, and ya call - GHOSTBUSTERS! Ow![/singing]

or

[singing]I never meant 2 cause u any sorrow
I never meant 2 cause u any pain
I only wanted 2 one time see u laughing
I only wanted 2 see u laughing in the Purple Rain[/singing]

To this day if I pick up the phone to make a call and someone asks me "Who you gonna call" I still answer "GHOSTBUSTERS!" :D

Well, since Ray Parker Jr. lost a plagarism lawsuit on "Ghostbusters", you have to instead pick the song he ripped off -- "I Want a New Drug", by Huey Lewis and the News. :D

Nah, man. Bump that. Ray Parker loses, but Vanilla Ice wins? Balooney. I never even realized the similarities until I heard about the suit.

I think I'll just go copyright every pattern of notes possible - I'll be right back. (For once, I wish we had rolleyes, even though I usually hate them on other boards.)

Actually, IIRC, Vanilla agreed to pay Queen and Bowie if they didn't sue. But if you really want to talk about stupid copyright lawsuits, go no further than the case of Fantasy v. Fogerty.

In it, Fogerty was sued because his new song sounded too much like an older song written and sung by... wait for it... John Fogerty!

Of course, Fogerty won.
