Defining a decade with a song: 1990s

I'll give them that they seem to have created the look, at any rate, but R.E.M., Neil Young, Soundgarden, and Jane's Addiction all had the sound well before Nirvana came along - and you can't tell me that at least the first two of those weren't popular. ;)
How about all four. Ok, JA may be more of a cult band, but they still have a very loyal following.

When I said the first two, I meant before Nirvana. Soundgarden, obviously, was popular too, but gained their real popularity afterward. :)

Don't remind me. :] ;)

My first year in the Air Force I had to carpool with some of my co-workers. The only one of us with a car was a HUGE Nirvana fan. So every morning and afternoon I was forced to listen to every album Nirvana had put out. :]

Well, I got beaten to Smells Like Teen Spirit by about a dozen people, so just to be contrary I'll go with Loser by Beck.

BTW, who ever thought he'd be anything but a one-hit wonder? Almost everything he's done since has been glorious. Debra off of Midnite Vultures is the best song Prince never did.

Folks, please don't start any more "Defining a decade with a..." threads until one of the existing four is no longer active. Thanks.
