Deflect Arrows

Make it a counter, based on the pre-existing stat that says how hard you are to hit: 1/round as an immediate action, you gain (char level) to AC vs ranged weapons.
Even better rule: as immediate action, gain +(1/2 level) to AC vs ranged attacks for the rest of the round.

Shilsen *is* a Houserule. Clearly, Shilsen is far too powerful to be Core.

Afterall, Shilsen is broken.

Facts:
  • Shilsen is a houserule.
  • Physics is a houserule.
  • Shilsen is broken.

Conclusion: Physics is broken, and Shilsen is the Far Realms.

In unrelated news, Deflect Arrow is just fine as-is. The monk in my group has it, and I like using archers. He gets some use out of it, but it's not an encounter-breaker. Not like Improved Grapple vs. a spellcaster anyway.

Cheers, -- N

Nifft, how does Shilsen equate into the Far Realms? Or is the Far Realms a houserule, thus making physics the Far Realms as well? :uhoh:

Archer's shouldn't be spraying arrows at the monk anyways, they have more important targets, like spellcasters. :D

Monks are for the meat shield (bruiser) characters to beat on, well, I suppose the scouts (with a dip into barbarian) focused on melee. Or the summons.

Deflect Arrows is actually a fairly weak feat in my opinion, especially in the hands of a non-Monk due to the open hand restriction. In my games, I use a variant of Deflect Arrows that remains useful for monks, but is also a less sub par feat choice for other melee combatants.

Deflect Arrows [General]
Prerequisites : Dex 13, Combat Reflexes
Benefit: When you would normally be hit with a ranged weapon you may,as an immediate action, deflect it so that you take no damage from it.

To deflect an attack from a ranged weapon, you must be armed and aware of the attack. Unusually massive ranged weapons and ranged attacks generated by spell effects can't be deflected.

Special:A monk may select Deflect Arrows as a bonus feat at 2nd level, even if she does not meet the prerequisites.

A fighter may select Deflect Arrows as one of his fighter bonus feats.

A warblade may select Deflect Arrows as one of his warblade bonus feats.

Note : The monk note was left there even though I no longer use monks in my game, preferring the swordsage for my supernatural martial artists.

I would say that a bonus to hit does not equate to speed, but to accuracy. Thus a +5 arrow is not moving at bullet speed, but is simply course correcting.

I must also admit that I have been contemplating a PC with infinite deflect + a shield of arrow attraction. Devoted Defender much?

I'll be going with the ref 20 + enhancements bonus.
Thanks everyone.

The problem is - that makes the feat pretty much useless, even if you allow a deflect against every ranged attack that round - it is just so hard to accomplish until monks reach super high levels.

Gosh, it isn't as if monks are so powerful that most people are looking for ways to tone them down!
