Should deities have statistics, avatars with statistics, both, or neither?

I definately want stats for gods! In so many myths and legends heroes have challenged the gods. This is even seen in a lot of modern fantasy. For example in David Edding's Belgariad Series, Garion must slay the evil god Torak. Such things would be an excellent way to conclude an epic level campaign. If DMs don't like the idea of gods having statistics they can just Rule 0 it.
That said I really don't like the concept of avatars. As pointed out in a previous post, Avatars are really a Hindu concept, not something that is found in most western mythology. Moreover the word avatar usually refers to one of the ten incarnations of the god Vishnu, the Hindu god of preservation. I hope the new version of Dieties and Demigods does away with the avatar nonsense.

It's easier for people to ignore stats given, then for people to come up with stats that aren't there. Ya, it'd be fun to have characters challenge the gods at some point, or to involve the gods more readily then in most campaigns. Have the gods walk the Earth and all that.

On the avatar idea, without getting into a religious debate; if you look at it from a certain point of view, there are avatars in many other religions, including a big Western religion.
I use avatars from this perspective, and never had a problem with it.

Give us both so that we can chose to use our ignore them as we see fit...as opposed to having to create them if we want.

Divine & Defeated

With everyone declaring how much they want to see the stats for godss avatars, I feel the need to put a shameless plug in for a book I worked on. The Divine & the Defeated by Sword & Sorcery Studios provides statistics for 8 major gods as well as numerous demigods. It also has new spells, domains, priestly representatives or each god, godly artifacts, info on worshippers, godly servants called 'heralds' which serve as the god's gophers and more.

Although this book is written for the Scarred Lands, it could easily be reworked and put in a homebrew campaign. Why develop your own gods when we've done all the work for you?

So take a look at it-I especially recommend Chardun, the Slaver :D

It's a good book. I am pretty happy with it, though I currently have no use for it. I'm a PC in Greyhawk, but with any luck I'll pick up the DM reins and get to use it.

I voted on the poll, but......

You guys are aware it has already been stated by WotC that the new Deities and Demigods will have stats for gods correct? Sorry- didnt mean to spoil your fun. :D
