Deity Worship & Spell Access

Here is an idea I am kicking around for an alternate homebrew.

Demigod Worship
Worship of a demigod only allows a cleric to have access to 2nd level spells.

Lesser Deity Worship
Worship of a Lesser only allows a cleric to have access to 4thlevel spells.

Intermediate Deity Worship
Worship of an Intermediate Deity only allows a cleric to have access to 6th level spells.

Greater Deity Worship
Worship of a greater deity allows access to all spell levels.

Here is the clincher: The previous only applies to non-domain spells. When it comes to domain spells, the cleric may cast them w/o components ala Monte Cooks variant Sorcerer.

Whats the advantage of worshipping a lesser diety...or the limitor keeping you from selecting a Greater diety?

I presume lesser dieties would have more domain options? THe higher level ones tend to be more focused in thier specialization?

I think this would go very well into a sphere-based spell system..which if I ever get my brain working again :)
{Still thinking on a skill-based variant that uses Knowledge: Religion {insert Domain here} as the limitor of what spells are available...but haven't been able to even figure out the foundation of the system...}

I think more powerful gods might have greater spells but less chance of personal intervention. Greater gods would be tied by convention, treaty and other obligations.

A Demigod might intervene personally much more readily. They have fewer worshipers to deal with and can give them more time.
