How are you going to decide what changes are going to be made?

I mean, if someone sits down with the 3.0 SRD, the 3.5 SRD and Edition Pi, they will find a lot of overlap. But when 3.0 and 3.5 differ, how are you going to decide which alternative to use, or whether to do something different? Is Edition Pi basically a collection of your house rules, or is it something else?

But how did you determine that more people like the 3.0 weapon size rules than the 3.5 weapon size rules? Just because something gets a lot of complaints doesn't mean it's automatically unpopular. I like the 3.5 weapon size rules, but I don't go around complaining about the 3.0 versions. And while I dislike the simplification of cover and concealment, I'm sure there are plenty of people who appreciate the new versions but have yet to voice your opinions on the subject.

And whatever else, your homebrew psionics system is certainly going to be less popular than the official versions, whether or not it's an improvement.

Sounds nifty. I'm not sold, but I'd just like to point out one thing:

This is how psionic combat worked in 2e Skills & Powers/Dark Sun Revised. I hated that. Partially because it was horribly implemented (most attack modes cost more PSP than they did in damage - e.g. pay 6 PSP to do 1d8 PSPs of damage), but also because I don't really like the idea that you use the same pool as both "hit points" and "spell points." I'd rather see something like the tangents system used in the 2e Complete Psionics Handbook - when an attack mode is used against a psionic target, you get a "tangent" against the target, and when you have three tangents you've got full-blown contact, and can mess with their minds a lot. If you want to have a system where powerful psionics can more easily defend themselves, you could either require more tangents for powerful individuals, and/or provide a way to "evict" one or more tangents.

I determine what is and is not preferred the old fashioned way: I ask people. Around here and online, the vast majority of people don't like the 3.5 weapon size rules. Thus they are replaced with the 3.0 rules. After that it is a matter of playtesting and asking people to try out any changes, then making needed alterations.

So far I've not had any major complaints about the rules used or added material, and have managed to come up with solutions to all minor complaints.

As for the new psionics rules, I have had over a dozen people (three full game groups plus some individuals) go over them and try them. So far all the complains have been on the order of small balance tweaks and editing fixes. Even a couple guys who were fanatical about the WotC system, and said they would "be happy to tear apart your system", have decided to switch after trying it out.

So I'm not too worried about the reception of the new psionics rules or the various non-psi rules and material, since it has been overwhelmingly positive to date. If anythign it annoys me, since it is hard to improve without NEGATIVE feedback to know what to fix!

But in any case I'm not here to "pimp" the books. I'm here looking for help with art and fluff text, as well as suggestions for extra material. While I appreciate the desire to ask about the system itself, and enjoy answering questions about it, that is not the purpose of this topic ;)

Go look at the poll on the General board - more people like 3.5 weapon sizes. (And this has been true for most poll son the subject that I have seen.) The noisier[/i] people prefer 3.0 - which is not the same as the majority by any means. Polls say otherwise.
