[Delta Green] Operas and Avatars: The Wild Hunt

"...This is the story behind one of the greatest manhunts in history. Maybe you read about it, or rather what they let you read about it, probably in some minor item buried somewhere in a back page. However, what happened in that city...was so incredible that to this day the facts have been suppressed in a massive effort to save certain political careers from disaster and law enforcement officials from embarrassment. This will be the last time I ever discuss these events with anyone, judge for yourself its believability, and then try to tell yourself, wherever you may be, it couldn't happen here."

[sblock] (AKA Katrina Sue Yoppeigh) It was late at the Library of Congress Research annex. Most of the employees had gone home save for Katrina and Professor Camp. Katrina or Janet as she was called these days was working on her computer at her desk. The hard drive had been giving her troubles all week and she finally decided just to change it out completely. She could see Professor Camp at his desk talking on the phone. He had been on the phone or his computer almost all afternoon. She wondered if it had anything to do with Delta Green business. So far she had only been on one mission and that involved her rather messy indoctrination into the "club". She had lost her job, her identity, and almost her life. The Professor hung up the phone and sat at his desk for a few moments. Then he stuck his head out of his office. "Janet could you come in here please."[/sblock]

Dr. Jonathan Paul Anderson, CDC

Jonathan was busy finishing up a article for The Journal of Infectious Diseases on the growing incidents of drug resistant Malaria. To a layman it was all but incomprehensible but to an expert it was pretty alarming. You think you have a disease licked and it mutates into a stronger form. The phone on his desk rings and he answered it. "Dr. Anderson? My name is Chester Boulder. I am the New York City District Attorney. I was wondering if I could talk to about an important matter."

Agent Marcus K. Foster, DEA

Agent Foster was called into his bosses office early on this October morning. Director Tom Greave was a no nonsense type guy who expected the best from his agents. Luckily Marcus gave about 110% and that suited Director Greave just fine. "Foster take a seat." he said as he looked through some papers on his desk. "How would you like a trip to New York?"

"As long as you're buying, sir. Anything important?"

"Well the New York City DA is forming a task force in response to a possible serial killer. He called and asked if the DEA could send someone to be on the task force. He said that the killer might be on some sort of drug induced killing spree." Director Greave shakes his head like he doesn't believe a word of what he just said. "Well he asked for you personally and it would give us some brownie points with the New York police department and DA's office which an't bad. So what do you think?"

"Sounds like a good move all around. When do you need me there?"

Agent Greave gives Marcus a approving nod. "I knew I could count on you." He hands you a envelope. "Here is your plane tickets and expense voucher. Your flight is at 4:10 this afternoon. You are to contact Captain Jules Matheson, NYPD at the 34th precient. Keep me upated on the case. Ok?"

[sblock] "Katrina, first I just wanted to say that you have been doing a excellent job here at the Library. I hope you are enjoying your work here?" says the Professor. "Something has come up in New York and I need someone to go and evaluate the situation and keep me informed about what's going on there. Do you think you are up to it?"[/sblock]

Marcus hurries home to pack. He is sure to complete any paperwork necessary to bring his pistol in his luggage (not carry on), and ready to depart.

[sblock]She smiles at the thought of getting away from all of these reports. She nods to the Professor. "Yes!" She says almost with too much enthusiasm. "I mean. Well it would be nice to get away from those reports for a while. When do you need me to leave?" She gets a far off look. "What do I need to bring." She motions as if doing kung fu. "Do I get any nifty gadgets to take with me?"

[sblock] Professor Camp laughs "No this is not a James Bond movie, Katrina. You have that pistol that we got for you? Bring it. Ok here is the situation. Two women are dead and it looks like the work of a serial killer. But from the reports, there are possible unnatural elements to the case. There is a task force forming to handle the case and one of our operatives, Blake Conrad, a FBI psychiatric consultant is part of it. He was the one who alerted us to the case. You are going to be assigned as Conrad's assistant. In addition to being my eyes and ears I want you to evaluate two possible candidates for joining Delta Green. A DEA agent by the name of Marcus Foster and Dr. Jonathan Anderson of the CDC. They are both being assigned to the task force and would make good recruits. Feel them out and see if they are good DG material. Any questions?"[/sblock]

[sblock]"How should I keep in contact with you, Professor? Do you want me to take a laptop as well? It might be useful." She pauses a moment. "Contact Blake Conrad, right! Then check on DEA agent Marcus Foster and Dr. Jonathan Anderson of the CDC. If I determine that either or both are good material, how am I to proceed? Recruit them or report to you first?"

[sblock]"You can keep in touch with me through one of our secure servers by email. I know that I am asking a lot of you but we are stretched thin at the moment. Conrad will back you up though. Here is a plane ticket to New York City and some cash." He hands you an envelope with an airline ticket scheduled to leave tomorrow morning and $500 in cash. "Don't attempt to recruit Foster or Anderson until you give me a report on them and get my ok."[/sblock]

[sblock]Katrina nods and packs up a laptop. "What about traveling on the plane with the gun? Will there be any problems? I will confer with Conrad, then. I believe that is all. I best get some sleep before my trip."

[sblock]"Your right. I will get Conrad to provide you with a gun once you get there. Good luck Katrina and keep your eyes open."[/sblock]

[sblock]Katrina heads home and packs for the trip. Then she sets her alarm and gets some sleep. The next morning she finishes packing and heads for the airport.

"Yes, Mr. Boulder, I have a minute. What would you like to discuss," Jonathan says coolly. Jonathan had little patience with lawyers, their beauracratic ways, and the endless red tape they were so apt to spill forth. Jonathan was also fighting an anxious feeling with this call. Damn. Did I do something wrong?

Dr. Anderson

"I am currently forming a investigative task force that is looking into the deaths of two women in the New York City area. From the evidence it appears to be a serial killer. You name came up as a possible addition to the task force. Your medical knowledge would be very valuable to our investigation. I was hoping that you could come to New York to help us out." says the man over the phone.

"Mr. Boulder, why exactly have you targeted me for this task force? I believe you could find someone more qualified and closer to New York and maybe save the taxpayers some green," Jonathan growls. Jonathan wipes his red, swollen eyes with the back of his hand. Damnit. I've only got my research group back on track. We've just started making some serious breakthroughs...why do I have to leave again? And those damn journals we found. I really want to know what's in those. "Look, Mr. Boulder. I'm tired and I don't mean to be rude. Tell me the truth. Why was I selected for this task force. No B.S."

Dr. Anderson

"Well Dr. Anderson, I know that you have aided the Harrisonburg police and the DEA in a case a few months back. In fact, Agent Marcus Foster of the DEA has also been invited to join the task force. Your experience while limited in law enforcement is just what we need as some aspects of the case are how would you say....out of the norm."
